バンコクを拠点に活動するアーティスト、パピモン・ロートラクンによる展覧会『To Create Is To Pass On』は、アーティスト・イン・レジデンス AIRΔ vol.15 における、3カ月にわたる大阪での滞在制作の成果展です。

ロートラクンは、大阪に内在する〈モノづくり〉における“クリエイティビティ”、“職人技”、“イノベーション”に着目し、大阪での滞在制作を進めました。

大阪滞在中、ロートラクンは〈つくる〉という行為そのものがたどる循環について考えるようになりました。新しくなにかを生み出す行為とは、必ず素材やエネルギーを要し、ときに何かを失うこともあります。創造と破壊は常に隣り合わせで、いったん始まった創造のプロセスは止まることなく続いていきます。

本展で発表される作品は、藤田美術館に所蔵される、幾重にも重なる茶碗箱から着想を得ています。ロートラクンはその形式を再解釈し、大阪で採取した素材を混ぜた粘土を用いて、多層構造の箱を制作しました。各層には、素材の原点から環境への影響まで、創造のプロセスにおける段階が表されています。

時代ごとに受け継がれてきた〈モノづくり〉の清濁をロートラクンは静かに掬い上げます。ぜひ展覧会をご高覧ください。

バンコクを拠点に活動するマルチディシプリナリー・アーティスト／デザイナー。プロダクトデザインの背景を生かし、物質に宿る物語を手がかりに、形と意味の結びつきを探求している。人間性や文化的記憶、人と物のあいだに存在する見えないつながりへの関心を原動力とし、記憶がどのように素材へと結びつき、物が個人および共同体の経験を受け止める器となるのかを追究している。

To Create Is To Pass On

The solo exhibition To Create Is To Pass On by Bangkok-based artist Papimol Lotrakul presents the results of her three-month residency, AIRΔ vol.15, in Osaka.

Developed during her stay in a city shaped by creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation, the exhibition explores the cycle of making. During her time in Osaka, Papimol began to question the process of creation itself. She observed that every new act of making requires materials, energy, and sometimes loss. Creation and destruction coexist, and once the creative process begins, it moves forward without stopping.

The work is inspired by the layered tea bowl boxes in the collection of the Fujita Museum. In this exhibition, Papimol reimagines this format as a series of ceramic boxes made from clay mixed with materials gathered locally in Osaka. Each layer reflects a stage of creation—from its raw origins to its environmental impact—and the outermost structure invites visitors to write messages and hopes for the next generation.

Papimol Lotrakul is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based in Bangkok. Her work explores the narratives embedded in physical objects, merging form with meaning. Driven by an interest in humanity, cultural memory, and the invisible connections between people and things, she reflects on how memory inhabits material and how objects become vessels for personal and collective experience.

artXtension（アート・エクステンション）は、「企画の地産地消から巡回へ」をキーワードに、各アートスペースが企画したプロジェクトを、国内外に巡回させることで、より多くの観客や地域に届けることを目的とするネットワークです。

第一弾は、2024年にTRA-TRAVEL(大阪)が、台湾のコレクティブOCAC内のチームP.M.Sと共に企画した、台湾の映像スクリーニング『Un/Uttered』を国内8箇所のアートスペースに巡回します。

本スクリーニングは、台湾における異なる先住民族コミュニティのアーティストたちによる映像作品から構成され、Un/Uttered（発話されること／されないこと）の微妙なバランスを操り、複雑な現代社会の中で個人の存在の本質にアプローチする作品に焦点を当てています。この隣国、台湾で制作された映像作品を通じて、都市文化と伝統文化、人間と自然、ジェンダーの捉え方、複雑な現代社会におけるアイデンティティなど、さまざまな境界を問い直す機会にしたいと思います。巡回１箇所目は、「旧横田医院（鳥取県鳥取市）」です。ぜひお越しください。

■ P.M.S.　

P.M.S.は、美学、文化、政治など、映像に関連するさまざまな関心を共有する「Posak Jodian」、「manman」、「Sophie Chen」によって2022年に設立以降、複数の上映イベントを行ってきた。主に先住民コミュニティとジェンダーの流動性をテーマに扱っている。上映後にはディスカッションの時間を設け、多様な視点を共有し相互理解を広げ、個人と集団の力学について考察する。

2001年に台北の板橋で設立されたOpen Contemporary Art Center（OCAC）は、バンコクや台北の様々な地区を拠点に進化を遂げてきたアーティストコレクティブ。初期にはアーティストスタジオ、ブッククラブ、展覧会などのプログラムを提供していましたが、現在では特にタイのアーティストとの国際的なつながりを深めるための「ThaiTaiプロジェクト」を通じて成長を遂げています。現在は9人のメンバー全員が活動中のアーティストで、OCACは現代アートシーンにおける多様な対話と芸術的可能性を促進するシンクタンクおよびプラットフォームとして機能しています。

ギャラリー、キッチン、ギャザリングスペース、庭があるオルタナティブスペース。別府駅から徒歩約５分ほどの物件を改修し、2023年に開設。展覧会やアーティスト・イン・レジデンス、トーク、スクリーニングなど様々なイベントを実施。展覧会やイベントの際のみオープンする「喫茶ねこじた」では、展覧会にあわせたオリジナルメニューも販売。「ひとのNEKOZE見て、わがNEKOZE直す。でもやっぱりNEKOZEは心地いい」をテーマに、メンバーそれぞれの特性を活かしながら運営している。

Seasun（愛知県 名古屋市）

AIR motomoto (熊本県 荒尾市)　

熊本県北部の荒尾市にあるマイクロレジデンス施設。荒尾市出身の宮本華子 (現代アーティスト) が地元のスペースを活用して運用を開始。Kumamoto の moto と Miyamoto の moto から、また、日本語の「駄目で元々」という言葉の motomoto の意味も含まれ、一見ネガティブに見えて、ポジティブな意味から名付けられた。 レジデンスは、宮本とヴァレリア・レイエスと2 人体制で運用。アーティストがリラックスして、自分の時間を持てるスペースを目指し、宮本自身が、個人的に出会ったアーティストに声を掛けて滞在作家を選出している。

Center / Alternative Space and Hostel (栃木県 鹿沼市)　

栃木県鹿沼市にある、アーティストが運営する宿泊可能な複合施設。 2022年にサウンドアーティストの河野円と映像作家の田巻真寛が会社員を辞めて東京から栃木へUターン移住し、地方都市の人通りが無くなったシャッター商店街の空き店舗をリノベーションして設立。「明日が少し楽しくなる」をキーワードに、実験映画・実験音楽を軸に既存のジャンルからはみ出した表現活動の場、新たな文化が醸成される世界で唯一無二の場所を目指している。実験的な表現の裾野を広げるため、トガリながらも地域や宿泊者にも開かれた場所を子育てしつつ模索しながら運営している。2025年からアーティスト・イン・レジデンス (Center AiR) を本格始動。https://center-kanuma.net/

TPlat（一般社団法人鳥取クリエイティブプラットフォーム） (鳥取県)　

TPlat (ティープラット：一般社団法人鳥取クリエイティブプラットフォーム) は、鳥取県内外で幅広く創造的な活動を行う個人や団体をつなぎ、いま、ここで暮らす人々の豊かな暮らしをつむぐためのプラットフォームとして、2024年11月に設立されました。設立より約10年前の2014・15年の２ヶ年にわたり、鳥取県内約10か所でアーティスト・イン・レジデンス (AIR)を展開する鳥取藝住祭が県の事業として実施されました。2016年には、県の補助金を活用して事業を継続する団体が相互交流を目的に鳥取藝住実行委員会を結成し、翌2017年にウェブマガジン「＋○＋＋○ (トット)」を開設しました。 その取り組みの成果を発展的に継承するため、2022年度から3ヶ年にわたる「休眠預金等活用事業」の採択を受けて法人化したのがTPlatです。人口減少で社会的資源がさらに減少していくことが避けられない中でも、誰もが自ら考え行動し、創造性にあふれた活動が持続的に展開され、その恩恵を地域住民が持続的に享受できる、そんな豊かな暮らしのある地域社会を未来につないでいくための活動を行っています。https://tplat.org/

スタジオピンクハウス+アートギャラリーミヤウチ (広島県 廿日市市)　

ピンク色の外壁が特徴的なスタジオピンクハウスは、美術家・諫山元貴と画家・手嶋勇気によるシェアアトリエ。隣接するアートギャラリーミヤウチの倉庫だった旧民家の一画を2015年から活用しています。2020年のコロナ禍を機に一部を改装し、多目的スペースとしての活用を開始。2022年からは学生・キュレーター・アーティストの交流プログラム「Pink de Tea Time」を企画・実施、2023年からはアートギャラリーミヤウチの展示期間に合わせて、休憩・交流の場としてのカフェ「ピンク喫茶」を開いています。https://www.instagram.com/pinkhouse_hiroshima/

公益財団法人みやうち芸術文化振興財団の施設として2013年に開館。2020年からは博物館相当施設として小さな美術館の機能を持ちながら多様な事業を展開しています。広島に関連した展覧会の開催に加え、ワークショップやレクチャーなどのプログラムも多数実施。アーティストとの連携企画や現地制作のコーディネートにも力を入れています。隣接するスタジオピンクハウスとの連携によってネットワークを広げ、地域のアートシーンを活性化する拠点を目指しています。https://miyauchiaf.or.jp/

TRA-TRAVEL (大阪府 大阪市)　

TRA-TRAVELは2019年に設立され、これまでに15カ国以上、50名を超えるクリエイターとともに展覧会、レジデンス、トーク、アートツアーなどのプロジェクトを実施してきた。また、独自のスペースを持たないという特性を活かし、プロジェクトの企画実施に特化。国内外のアートスペース、映画館、シェアオフィスなど多様な場と連携しながら、柔軟なアートプロジェクトを展開する「モバイルプロジェクト」で活動し、社会に持続可能な芸術交流の形を提案している。これまで、おおさか創造千島財団、国際交流基金マニラ日本文化センター (フィリピン)、Sàn Art (ベトナム)、OCAC (台湾) などと協働するなど、毎年新たな地域と共にプロジェクトを行い、国内外のアートネットワークをつないでいる。

■ artXtension 〜企画の地産地消から巡回へ〜 について：
artXtension（アート・エクステンション）は、アートプロジェクトを他のアートスペースへ共有し、巡回させていくためのネットワークです。各アートスペースが企画した優れたプロジェクトを、実施地域内にとどめず、国内外で巡回させることで、より多くの観客や地域に届けることを目的としています。地域を越えた協働を促進するartXtensionは、企画コストを分散させることで内容の充実を図り、アートスペース間の芸術交流を活性化させるとともに、新たなアートネットワークの形成を目指します。

artXtension vol.1 “Un/Uttered”

artXtension is a network based on the concept of “from locally rooted initiatives to traveling projects.”
Its aim is to circulate projects originally organized by individual art spaces to other regions—both within Japan and abroad—so that they may reach new audiences and communities.

For its first edition, artXtension will tour “Un/Uttered,” a screening program originally organized in 2024 by TRA-TRAVEL (Osaka) and OCAC (Taiwan) in collaboration and curated by P.M.S.
The program presents video works by artists from diverse Indigenous communities in Taiwan. Each work delicately explores the tension between what is uttered and unuttered, seeking the essence of personal existence within the complexities of contemporary society.

Through these films created in our neighboring country, Taiwan, the program invites audiences to reconsider the boundaries between cultures, humans and nature, perceptions of gender, and identity in the modern world.

The first stop of the tour will be Kyū-Yokota Clinic (Cotomeya annex building, Tottori City, Tottori Prefecture).

Founded in 2022 by Posak Jodian, manman, and Sophie Chen, P.M.S. is a collective that shares diverse interests in aesthetics, culture, and politics related to moving images. The group has organized multiple screening events, mainly focusing on Indigenous communities and the fluidity of gender. After each screening, they hold discussions to share multiple perspectives, foster mutual understanding, and explore the dynamics between individuals and communities.

Founded in 2001 in Banqiao, Taipei, the Open Contemporary Art Center (OCAC) is an artist collective that has evolved across different districts in Taipei and Bangkok. Initially offering artist studios, book clubs, and exhibitions, OCAC has since grown through international collaborations, particularly its ThaiTai Project, which connects artists from Thailand and Taiwan. Currently composed of nine active artist members, OCAC functions as both a think tank and a platform that fosters diverse dialogues and artistic possibilities in the contemporary art scene.

Art & Garden Nekoze (Beppu, Oita)
An alternative space combining a gallery, kitchen, gathering area, and garden. Located about a 5-minute walk from Beppu Station, it was renovated and opened in 2023. The space hosts exhibitions, artist residencies, talks, and screenings. Its café “Kissa Neko-jita,” open only during events, serves original menus inspired by each exhibition. With the motto “When we see someone’s NEKOZE, adjust our NEKOZE. But still, NEKOZE is comfortable” the space is collaboratively run by members utilizing their individual strengths.

Seasun (Nagoya, Aichi)
Established in Nagoya, SEASUN aims to be a hub where people can always engage with contemporary art and culture from Southeast Asia. It focuses on exchange between Southeast Asia and Japan through art and culture, organizing and managing projects such as artist residencies, community exchanges, academic collaborations, screenings, talks, and parties.

AIR motomoto (Arao, Kumamoto)
A micro-residency facility located in Arao City, northern Kumamoto. Founded by contemporary artist Hanako Miyamoto, a native of Arao, who revitalized a local space for this purpose. The name “motomoto” comes from both Kumamoto and Miyamoto, and also from the Japanese phrase “dame de motomoto” (“nothing ventured, nothing gained”), carrying a positive nuance. Operated by Miyamoto and Valeria Reyes, the residency provides a relaxed environment for artists to focus on their own work, with participants personally invited by Miyamoto.

Center / Alternative Space and Hostel (Kanuma, Tochigi)
A multi-purpose, artist-run facility in Kanuma City that combines lodging and art programming. Founded in 2022 by sound artist Madoka Kawano and filmmaker Masahiro Tamaki, who left their corporate jobs in Tokyo to move back to Tochigi. They renovated an empty shop in a declining arcade, creating a one-of-a-kind venue centered on experimental film and music, open to both locals and visitors. Their motto, “Making tomorrow a bit more enjoyable,” reflects their vision to nurture alternative expressions and local community ties while raising children. In 2025, they officially launched an artist-in-residence program, Center AiR.

TPlat was established in November 2024 as a platform connecting individuals and organizations engaged in creative activities within and beyond Tottori Prefecture, aiming to weave a richer daily life for local communities. Its origins trace back to the Tottori Geijusai Artist-in-Residence Project (2014–2015), which took place across 10 sites in the prefecture. In 2016, the participating groups formed the Tottori Geiju Executive Committee, launching the web magazine +○＋＋○ (Tott) in 2017. To further develop these initiatives, TPlat was incorporated in 2022 under Japan’s Dormant Deposit Utilization Project. Its mission is to sustain creative and autonomous activities that enrich local life, even amid population decline and reduced resources.

Studio Pink House + Art Gallery Miyauchi (Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima)

Studio Pink House, recognizable by its pink exterior, is a shared studio founded by artist Motoki Isayama and painter Yuki Tejima in part of a former warehouse of Art Gallery Miyauchi, repurposed in 2015. During the pandemic in 2020, it was renovated into a multi-purpose space. Since 2022, they have organized the “Pink de Tea Time” program for student–curator–artist exchange, and since 2023 have opened “Pink Café” during exhibitions as a space for rest and conversation.

Art Gallery Miyauchi, established in 2013 by the Miyauchi Art Foundation, functions as a small museum since 2020. It hosts exhibitions related to Hiroshima, along with numerous workshops and lectures, and actively collaborates with artists on site-specific projects. Together with Studio Pink House, the gallery serves as a hub revitalizing the local art scene through a growing network of creative activities.

Founded in 2019, TRA-TRAVEL has collaborated with over 50 creators from more than 15 countries through exhibitions, residencies, talks, and art tours. Operating without a permanent venue, TRA-TRAVEL focuses on designing and implementing flexible “mobile projects” in partnership with various art spaces, cinemas, and co-working hubs in Japan and abroad. Its projects promote sustainable forms of international artistic exchange. Collaborations include organizations such as the Osaka Chishima Foundation for Creative Arts, Japan Foundation Manila (Philippines), Sàn Art (Vietnam), and OCAC (Taiwan). Each year, TRA-TRAVEL expands its network through new regional collaborations that bridge local and global art communities.

AIRΔ vol.17では、2025年10月から国際芸術センター青森のアーティスト・イン・レジデンス プログラム2025「CAMP」に参加しているタイ人アーティスト、アティッタヤポーン・センポーを大阪に招き、リサーチや発表を行うショートレジデンスプログラムです。

センポーは、タイのイサーン地方（東北地方）を拠点に、風刺的なアプローチを用いながら社会の規範を問い、見過ごされがちな問題に光をあてるように、マルチメディア・インスタレーション、ビデオアート、パフォーマンス、ニューメディアアート、彫刻、写真など、さまざまな形式で制作を行っています。

本ワークショップイベント『田んぼとバッタ〜ソムタムをつくりながら〜』では、タイのソムタム（パパイヤサラダ）を参加者とともに作りながら、センポーが継続的に行っている「バッタ」に関するリサーチの話を聞くとともに、日本で暮らすイサーン出身のタイ人労働者の生活や、彼／彼女らが労働後に田んぼで食材を採集する様子などを紹介します。大阪での滞在中には、「バッタ公園」へのリサーチや地元住民への聞き取りも予定されています。

バッタという存在を手がかりに、各地域に根づく営みや、そこから育まれる文化・風習・美意識に触れる機会となるでしょう。ご関心のある方はぜひご参加ください。

アティッタヤポーン・センポー｜Atittayaporn Saenpo

AIRΔ vol.17 Residency Program

AIRΔ vol.17 ｜Atittayaporn Saenpo
“Of Rice Fields and Grasshoppers: While Making Som Tam”

AIR Δ vol.17 is a short residency program in which Thai artist Atittayaporn Saenpo, currently participating in the Artist-in-Residence Program 2025 “CAMP” at the Aomori Contemporary Art Centre (ACAC) from October 2025, is invited to Osaka for further research and presentations.

Based in the Isan region of northeastern Thailand, Saenpo creates works that question social norms and shed light on often-overlooked issues through a satirical lens. Her practice spans multiple media, including multimedia installations, video art, performance, new media art, sculpture, and photography.

In this workshop event, “Of Rice Fields and Grasshoppers: While Making Som Tam”, participants will join Saenpo in preparing Som Tam—a traditional Thai papaya salad—while hearing about her ongoing research on grasshoppers. She will also introduce stories of Thai migrant workers from Isan living in Japan, including their daily lives and their practice of gathering ingredients in rice fields after work.

During her stay in Osaka, Saenpo plans to conduct field research at the so-called “Grasshopper Park” and interview local residents.

By tracing the life of the grasshopper, participants are invited to discover how local traditions, everyday practices, and aesthetic sensibilities are nurtured within each community. We warmly invite those interested to join us.

Atittayaporn Saenpo

Atittayaporn Saenpo (b. 1999, Roi Et, Thailand) is a contemporary artist whose practice explores the structural  systems of society, particularly in Isan (Northeast regions of Thailand). With a focus on satirical art, her work  interrogates social norms and highlights issues open overlooked or deemed “normal.” By  immersing themselves in local communities, she creates art that reflects the realities and  complexities of daily life in these areas, transforming everyday observations into thought provoking narratives.These explorations manifest across various forms such as multimedia installations, Performance, Video art, New media art, Sculpture, and Photos.

Atittayaporn’s currently an artist member and assistant at KULTX Collaborative Space in Khon Kaen Province,Thailand. Papimol Lotrakul

Papimol Lotrakul is a Bangkok-based multidisciplinary artist and designer who explores the connection between objects and memory. Working across various media, including painting, ceramics, and digital art, her work explores how material objects become vessels for both personal and collective experiences. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture in Industrial Design and a Master of Arts in Creative Art. Her recent work was featured in the Early Years Project at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (2025).

TRA-PLAYは、国内外のアートオーガナイゼーションが実施したワークショップなどを、開催地の土地柄に合わせてリメイクし再実施するプロジェクトです。

その土地の制度・文化・風習・社会状況の中から生み出した実践を大阪で共有し、共に実践することで、同時代の声に耳を傾けると同時に、私たち自身の文化や社会、そして制度について考える機会をつくります。

TRA-PLAY vol.4では、ジョクジャカルタのキュレーター・コレクティブ 『LIR.』が参加し、同地で行われるプロジェクトを大阪版として翻案。トーク/ポートフォリオレビューを開催します。

LIR.は、インドネシア・ジョグジャカルタで2011年に設立されたキュレーター・コレクティブです。国際的な展覧会やコラボレーションのほか、教育プラットフォームの運営などを行い、「地元の知・記憶・歴史を世代を超えて伝えていく」ことに関心を持ちながら活動を展開しています。

本ワークショップでは、LIR.の共同設立者でありアーティストのディト・ユウォノを迎え、インドネシアの文化的な交流スタイルである「ノンクロン」──ゆるやかに集い、時間や会話を共有する──をしながら、参加アーティストを対象とした作品のレビューを行います。インドネシアで活躍するキュレーターから直接アドバイスを受けることで、国際的な文脈の中で自身の作品や制作を見つめ直し、参加者が今後の活動を広げるきっかけとなることを期待しています。

アーティストに限らず、さまざまな分野の方々にとっても刺激的で実りある時間となるはずです。ぜひご参加ください。

ディト・ユウォノ（Dito Yuwono）

ディト・ユウォノの活動は、ビジュアルアートの制作とキュラトリアル実践のあいだを横断しており、彼は「空間」がいかに政治や歴史と結びついているかに関心を持っている。
リサーチを基盤とした彼の実践は、ビデオ、写真、映像インスタレーションなどの手法を通して、社会的・政治的・歴史的な問題をしばしば扱う。

彼はRAW Academie: CURAおよびIndependent Curators International（ICI）Intensives（2024）の修了生であり、2024年にはジョグジャカルタのCEMETI – Institute for Arts and Societyの新ディレクターの一人に就任した。
それ以前は、2020年から2024年までRuang MES56の共同ディレクターを務めていた。

LIR.

LIRは、ミラ・アスリニングティアス（Mira Asriningtyas）とディト・ユウォノ（Dito Yuwono）によって結成されたアート・インスティテューション／キュレーター・コレクティブ。2011年にインドネシア・ジョグジャカルタで設立されたLIR Spaceは、アーティストが互いに支え合い、前向きな環境を築くことを目的に活動を開始。二人は2019年、ダカールのRAW Material Companyによるプログラム「RAW Academie: CURA」のフェローに選出。LIRのプロジェクトは、学際的なコラボレーションとリサーチを基盤とする展覧会を特徴とし、知識や記憶、歴史を世代を超えて継承することを志向している。代表的なプロジェクトには、「Curated by LIR」展シリーズ（ジョグジャカルタ／ジャカルタ、2018〜2023）、「Transient Museum of a Thousand Conversations」（ISCPニューヨーク、2020年／OUR Museum台北、2023年）、「Pollination」第3版（2020–2021）などがあり、また故郷カリウランを舞台に地域住民の記憶をアーカイブ化する長期プロジェクト「900mdpl」（2017・2019・2022）にも取り組んでいる。

About TRA-PLAY

TRA-PLAY is a project that reinterprets and re-stages workshops originally organized by art organizations in Japan and abroad, adapting them to the context of the host location.

For TRA-PLAY vol.4, the curator collective LIR. from Yogyakarta will participate, presenting a localized Osaka version of a project originally carried out in their home city. Through this workshop, we aim to share and re-enact practices that emerged from the specific systems, cultures, customs, and social conditions of a place.

By engaging with these practices together in Osaka, the program invites us to listen to contemporary voices while reflecting on our own culture, society, and institutional structures.

TRA-PLAY vol.4 with LIR. “Reflecting Practice:  Nongkrong and Portfolio Review”

LIR. is a curator collective founded in 2011 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Alongside organizing international exhibitions and collaborations, they run educational platforms and engage in activities centered on “passing down local knowledge, memories, and histories across generations.”

In this workshop, we welcome Dito Yuwono, artist and co-founder of LIR., who will lead a portfolio review session in nongkrong—a casual Indonesian way of gathering to spend time and share conversations together.

By receiving direct advice from a practicing Indonesian curator, participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their art works and practices from a different perspective, and explore new directions for their future activities.

We hope this will be an inspiring and fruitful occasion not only for artists but also for participants from various fields.

Dito Yuwono

Dito Yuwono’s practice traverses between visual art making and curatorial practice. In his artistic practice, Dito is interested in how a space is interwoven with politics and history, and his research-based artistic practice often addresses socio-political-historical issues through the production of video, photography, and audio-visual installation. 

Dito is an alumni of RAW Academie: CURA, and Independent Curators International/ICI Intensives (2024). In 2024, he was appointed as one of the new directors of CEMETI – Institute for Arts and Society in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He comes to the position from Ruang MES56, where he has served as co-director from 2020-2024. 

About LIR.

LIR is an art institution turn curator collective consisting of Mira Asriningtyas and Dito Yuwono. LIR Space was initially established in 2011 as an art space in Yogyakarta – Indonesia with an aim to build a supportive and positive environment for artists. Together they were a fellow of RAW Academie: CURA (RAW Material Company – Dakar, 2019). 

LIR’s projects are characterised by the multi-disciplinary collaboration and research-based exhibition in order to foster continuous transgenerational transmission of knowledge, memory, and history. LIR’s recent project including “Curated by LIR” exhibition series (Yogyakarta & Jakarta, 2018 – 2023); “Transient Museum of a Thousand Conversations” (ISCP – New York, 2020 and OUR Museum – Taipei, 2023); 3rd edition of Pollination (2020‐2021)—a collaborative exercise between different institutions across Southeast Asia initiated by The Factory Contemporary Arts Centre co‐hosted by MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum (Thailand), Selasar Sunaryo Art Space (Indonesia), with the support of SAM Funds for Arts and Ecology (Indonesia) and The Gray Centre for Art and Inquiry (Chicago); and “900mdpl” (Kaliurang, 2017, 2019, & 2022), a long-term site-specific project in their hometown Kaliurang, an ageing resort village under an active volcano Mt. Merapi in order to preserve the collective memories of the people and create a socially-engaged archive of the space.

AIRΔ vol.16では、2024年6月から信楽の陶芸の森で1年間のレジデンスプログラムに参加しているミャンマー人アーティスト、ソー・ユ・ノウェを、名古屋の「seasun」と大阪の「TRA-TRAVEL」に招く巡回型レジデンスプログラムです。

ノウェは日本滞在中に、訪れた場所からインスピレーションを得て、身体は精神を宿す家であるという概念を軸に、自己を象徴する彫刻作品を多く制作しました。内臓や骨格といった身体のモチーフを植物的な様相へと変化させる彼女の作品は、聖なる空間と女性のアイデンティティをテーマとしています。

トークイベントでは、彼女が作品をとおして探求しているテーマや、各プロジェクトで起こる変容について語ります。ミャンマーに移住した中国系三世のノウェは、アニミズム的な信仰や民間伝承からインスピレーションを得て制作の根源となる思想を育んできました。本イベントは、そんな彼女が日本での滞在で何に影響を受けたのかを深く知る貴重な機会です。

本レジデンスでは、名古屋や大阪の寺社仏閣などでフィールドワークも行います。彼女の作品や体験に触れることは、アジアの風土や人々の営みの中で醸成されてきた、私たちのアイデンティティと変容について考えるきっかけとなるでしょう。ご興味のある方は、ぜひお越しください。

AIRΔ vol.16 Residency Program

AIRΔ vol.16 ｜Soe Yu Nwe
Identity and Transformation

AIRΔ vol.16 is a touring residency program that brings Saw Yu Nwe—an artist from Myanmar who has been participating in a one-year residency at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park since June 2024—to “seasun” in Nagoya and “TRA-TRAVEL” in Osaka.

During her stay in Japan, Nwe created numerous sculptural works inspired by the places she visited, grounded in the concept that the body is a home where the spirit resides. Her works transform bodily motifs such as organs and skeletons into plant-like forms, exploring themes of sacred spaces and female identity.

Art projects cultivated in each of these regions will be adapted into an Osaka version, presented over three days through workshops and talk events. By sharing and practicing the approaches developed within the systems, cultures, customs, and social contexts of each group’s home region, we aim to create an opportunity not only to listen to diverse contemporary voices but also to reflect on our own culture, society, and systems.

ワークショップ3 with c.95d8「Same but Different」

香港を拠点に活動するアーティスト・コレクティブ「c.95d8」を招聘し、パフォーマンス・ワークショップを体験・実践します。c.95d8は障害をもつ人々の経験を基盤とし、障害を創造的な資源かつ、熟考に値する主題として、パフォーマンスやワークショップを実施してきました。また、c.95d8が運営する「Crip Art Residency」では、障害のあるアーティストを受け入れを行ってきました。「Crip※」という言葉に込められているのは、障害者としての誇りや文化を積極的に受け入れる姿勢です。

大阪で実施する本イベントでは、c.95d8のこれまでの活動から育まれた「身体の差異と人々のあいだに流れる時間との関係」を探り、また「自分自身、他者、そしてそれらの関わりを形づくるもの」との、繊細な相互作用を探るワークショップでありパフォーマンスでもあります。

※ Crip：かつて差別的に使われた「cripple」に由来する言葉を、自分たちであえて使い直しポジティブに転換し使用している

Workshop 3 with c.95d8: Same but Different

We invite the Hong Kong–based artist collective c.95d8 to lead a participatory performance workshop. Rooted in the lived experiences of people with disabilities, c.95d8 has developed performances and workshops that treat disability as both a creative resource and a subject worthy of deep contemplation, which is understood as ‘crip’ to embrace the disability pride and culture.

In this Osaka event, participants will explore the relationship between bodily differences and the flow of time among people, while also engaging with the delicate interplay between the self, others, and the objects that shape these connections. Blending the formats of workshop and performance, the session offers a space to sense, reflect, and practice together.

2022年に設立された香港のアート＆コリビングスペース／コレクティブ。c.95d8は「クリップ（Crip）」をめぐる課題に焦点を当て、文化イベントやアーティスト・イン・レジデンスを企画・運営しています。「Crip（クリップ）」とは、英語の「cripple（身体障害者）」を当事者が再定義し、肯定的に用いる言葉です。障害を弱点ではなく新たな価値や視点の源泉とみなし、障害者運動のスラング的な自称として用いています。

またc.95d8が運営する「Crip Art Residency」では、障害のある人々の生活経験を基盤としたプログラム運営を行っています。

c.95d8 is a Hong Kong art and coliving space and collective founded in 2022. c.95d8 focuses on crip issues, and curated cultural events and artist residencies. Crip Art Residency is based on the lived experiences of disability. This program views disability as a creative resource and a subject worthy of contemplation, aiming to expand the spectrum of contemporary art while also re-presenting various dimensions of disability.

ワークショップ2 with 刺紙　「もやもやを木版画にしてみる」

中国・広州を拠点に活動するアーティスト・コレクティブ「刺紙」から、陳逸飛(チェン・イーフェイ)を招聘し、社会を語る術としての木版画をワークショップ形式で実践します。

刺紙の木版画のプロセスを通じて、その活動や背景にある中国の社会状況への理解を深めるとともに、表現手法としての木版画がコミュニケーションツールとしてどのように機能しているのか、その社会的な可能性についても、参加者同士で意見を交わします。家庭や職場、SNS、実社会のなかで私たちが日々感じている小さな違和感を出発点に、それぞれの記憶に残る感覚を木版画でかたちにしていきたいと思います。

Workshop 2 with Prickly Paper — Moyamoya: Subtle Tensions in Everyday Life through Woodblock Printing

In this workshop, we invite Chen Yifei from Prickly Paper, an artist collective based in Guangzhou, China, to explore woodblock printing as a way to speak about society.
Through creating woodblock prints together, participants will gain a deeper understanding of Prickly Paper’s practice and the social context behind their work, while also engaging in dialogue about how woodblock printing can function as a tool for communication and exchange.

Under the theme “Subtle Tensions in Everyday Life through Woodblock Printing”, we will start from the small, hard-to-define feelings of unease that arise at home, at work, on social media, or within society at large. Participants will be encouraged to give shape to these lingering, in-between emotions through the medium of woodblock printing, creating a space to share and reflect on the unspoken dissonances we all encounter.

刺紙

アーティストコレクティブ『刺紙』*は、中国広州で生まれたトイレで読むための小冊子『刺紙』を発行することから活動を開始。『刺紙』の各号の表紙は異なるアーティストによる木版画で印刷され、中身は家庭用プリンターで制作されるなど、手作り感のあるスタイルで本をつくっています。テーマごとに原稿の募集方法や形式を変え、トイレに投稿箱を設置するなど、ユニークな活動を展開しています。
『刺紙』は少数部を販売することで活動を維持し、また雑誌づくりを通じて友人たちとのつながりを深めてきました。 ワークショップは、この〈木版画＋雑誌づくり〉という方法をより広く多様な人々へ届けることを目指しています。これまで17の都市・地域でワークショップを開催し、美術機関、コミュニティスペース、独立系書店、自主運営スペースなどで活動してきました。

 2023年7月には、拠点を黄埔区深井村の店舗へ移し、「刺高聯記」として独立した拠点として活動を続けています。

* 中国語の「刺紙(Prickly Paper)」と広東語の「トイレットペーパー」は同音異義語

Prickly Paper
Prickly Paper is a booklet originally created by Chen Yifei and Ou Feihong for an exhibition at the Fei Art Museum in Guangzhou. The first issues were placed in the public toilets of a Guangzhou building, with its title being a Cantonese homonym for “toilet paper.”

Each issue features a woodblock-printed cover by different artists, while the inside pages are printed with a home printer. Submissions and layouts change with each theme, and the publication embraces a rough, handmade style. Produced in small quantities, Prickly Paper sustains itself through limited sales and serves as a way to connect with friends.

The Prickly Paper workshop aims to bring the practice of woodblock printing and zine-making to a broader and more diverse audience. To date, it has traveled to 17 cities and regions, hosted in art institutions, community centers, independent bookstores, and self-organized spaces.

In July 2023, the project relocated to a storefront in Shenjing Village, Huangpu District, establishing an independent space named Cigao Union.

本ワークショップは、ハノイのアートハブ AiRViNe（Artist-in-Residence Vietnam Network）によるシリーズ「Nature on the Roof」をリメイクしたものです。

Nature on the Roofは、ハノイの放置された屋上住宅にアーティストを招き、その空間や近隣住民との対話を通じて制作された本イベントは、レジャーをゲリラ的な実践として再構築する試みでした。

その発想の源となったのは、ベトナムの「trà đá vỉa hè（歩道のアイスティー）」の文化です。それは茶道のような格式張った儀礼に対して、より気軽で共同的なカウンターカルチャーとして生まれました。伝統儀礼がエリート主義であるのに対し、trà đá はお茶を飲む行為を、身近で柔軟かつ共有可能な文化へと変えるものです。輸入された習慣をベトナム現地の状況に合わせて変容させるベトナム人の姿勢――規則を緩め、完璧さを手放し、そこにある可能性を受け入れる――が映し出されています。

大阪では、その精神を翻案し「ベトナム・アフタヌーンティー」を開催します。またイベント内では、「In-Betweenness（間にあること）」と題した公開ディスカッションを行われ、ベトナムのアーティストやアート団体が、その必要性や文脈に応じ――アーティスト、オーガナイザー、キュレーター、そしてインスティテューション――と自在に役割を行き来する在り方を考察します。

AiRViNe／エアバイン

AiRViNe（アーティスト・イン・レジデンス・ベトナム・ネットワーク）は、
グエン・トゥ・ハンとチャン・タオ・ミエンによって設立。

文化交流やキャリア支援、地域社会との関わり、そして持続可能なアートインフラの育成を目的に、アーティスト・イン・レジデンスを通じてベトナム現代美術シーンの発展の支援をおこなう。2024年以降、AiRViNeは On the Move（OTM） および Green Art Lab Alliance（GALA） の正式メンバーとなり、さらに 台湾アートスペースアライアンス（TASA）、台湾アジア交流基金会、黄金町エリアマネジメントセンター との提携を通じて、ベトナムと国際的なアーティスト・イン・レジデンスをつなぐ重要なハブとしての役割を担う活動を行う。また、ワークショップやトーク、メンタリングを通じ、ベトナムのアーティストが国際的なレジデンスの機会を見つけ繋げる橋渡しとして積極的に支援活動を行う。

Workshop 1 with AiRViNe: 

“Vietnamese Afternoon Tea: In-Betweenness”

This workshop reinterprets Nature on the Roof, a series organized by Hanoi’s art hub AiRViNe (Artist-in-Residence Vietnam Network).

Nature on the Roof invited artists into an abandoned rooftop house in Hanoi, where they created works in dialogue with the space and its neighbors. The event sought to reimagine leisure as a guerrilla practice.

Its inspiration came from Vietnam’s culture of trà đá vỉa hè—sidewalk iced tea. In contrast to the formality of the tea ceremony, trà đá emerged as a more casual and communal counter-culture. While traditional rituals often carry an air of elitism, trà đá transforms the act of drinking tea into an accessible, flexible, and shared cultural practice. It reflects the Vietnamese approach of adapting imported customs to local realities—relaxing rules, letting go of perfection, and embracing possibility.

In Osaka, we will adapt that spirit into Vietnam Afternoon Tea.

Following the workshop, we will hold a public discussion titled In-Betweenness. This conversation will explore how Vietnamese artists and art organizations move fluidly between roles—artist, organizer, curator, and institution—depending on the needs and contexts of their practices.

AiRViNe

Artist-in-Residence Vietnam Network (AiRViNe) – founded by Nguyen Tu Hang and Tran Thao Mien – aims to support the growth of Vietnam’s contemporary art scene through artist residencies that foster cultural exchange, professional development, community engagement, and sustainable art infrastructure. Since 2024, AiRViNe has become an official member of On the Move (OTM), the Green Art Lab Alliance (GALA), and partnered with Taiwan Art Spaces Alliance (TASA), Taiwan-Asia Exchange Foundation, Koganecho Management Area Center —affirming its growing role as a vital connector between Vietnam and the international art residency landscape.

AiRViNe has organized collaborative residency programs with partners in Vietnam, Taiwan, and Japan, and hosts visiting artists from Vietnam, Italy, Netherlands, UK and Philippines. Through workshops, talks, and mentorship, the network actively supports Vietnamese artists in navigating and applying to international residency opportunities.

中国・福建省出身のアーティスト、楊健（Yang Jian）は、2024年にTRA-TRAVELのレジデンスプログラム「AIRΔ vol.8 with WHITE SPACE Beijing」に参加し、大阪で展覧会『タコの庭』を開催しました。

その後も大阪を拠点に活動を続ける楊は、2025年2月から5月までニューヨークのQC Art Centerのアーティストインレジデンスに参加。「清潔／検問」の関係性や、それらが引き起こす人種やイデオロギーの分断、それによる生活や思想への影響をテーマに制作を行いました。

今回の「Beer with Artist vol.9」では、ニューヨークでの滞在制作、現在の大阪での暮らし、そして中国のアートシーンについて、楊さんにじっくりとお話をうかがいます。

本イベントは、「アーティストに聞いてみる」をテーマに、気軽に相談したり、交流を楽しんだりできるカジュアルな場として、新たなつながりを生み出すことを目指しています。

中国の文化や地域の話題にとどまらず、さまざまな国でのアーティストとしての経験や視点を交えた自由な対話を楽しめる機会になれば幸いです。

今回のイベントでは、楊の映像作品もあわせてご紹介します。

楊健（Yang Jian）

アーティスト

1982年 中国福建省生まれのビデオとインスタレーションを主に制作するアーティスト。厦門大学芸術学院で学士号（2004年）と修士号（2007年）を取得後、2009年から2010年までStichting Niemeijer Fonds（NL）の助成を受けRijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten（オランダ）に滞在。 2015年にHUAYU Youth Awardの審査委員会特別賞を受賞。2018年OCATヤング・メディア・アーティスツ・オブ・ザ・イヤー受賞。中国、ドイツ、アメリカ、オランダで個展及びグループ展を多数開催。

主な展示として、「個展：Geyser」（WHITE SPACE、北京、2023年）、「Motion is Action-35 years of Chinese Media Art」（BY ART MATTERS、Hangzhou、2023年 ）、「Three Rooms: Edge of Now」（ZKM、カールスルーエ、2019年／ナムジュンパイクアートセンター、2018年）など。

現在中国の南京及び大阪を拠点に活動。

Clean/Censorship

Looking back on the practices and projects from Beijing to Osaka to New York.

Yang Jian, an artist from Fujian Province, China, participated in the TRA-TRAVEL residency program “AIRΔ vol.8 with WHITE SPACE Beijing” in 2024, during which he held an exhibition titled The Octopus Garden in Osaka.

Since then, he has continued to base his practice in Osaka. From February to May in 2025, Yang participated in a residency program in New York, where he developed work exploring the relationship between “clean” and “censorship,” and how these concepts contribute to divisions rooted in race and ideology—affecting daily life and modes of thought.

In this upcoming Beer with Artist vol.9, we will hear directly from Yang about his residency experience in New York, his current life in Osaka, and his perspective on the Chinese contemporary art scene.

This event is designed as a casual and open space to “ask the artist,” allowing participants to freely engage in conversation, ask questions, and make new connections.

We hope this will be a space not only to discuss Chinese culture and local issues, but also to enjoy open dialogue informed by Yang’s experiences as an artist working across different countries and contexts.

Yang’s video works will also be presented as part of the event.

Yang Jian

Artist

Born in 1982 in Fujian Province, China, Yang Jian is an artist primarily working with video and installation. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Academy of Arts at Xiamen University in 2004 and 2007, respectively. From 2009 to 2010, he was a resident at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in the Netherlands, supported by the Stichting Niemeijer Fonds.

In 2015, he received the Jury Special Award at the HUAYU Youth Award, and in 2018 he was named OCAT Young Media Artist of the Year. He has presented solo and group exhibitions in China, Germany, the United States, and the Netherlands. Recent exhibitions include Geyser at WHITE SPACE Beijing (2023), Motion is Action – 35 Years of Chinese Media Art at BY ART MATTERS in Hangzhou (2023), and Three Rooms: Edge of Now at ZKM in Karlsruhe (2019) and the Nam June Paik Art Center (2018).

Yang is currently based in Nanjing, China, and Osaka, Japan.

ワンタニー・シリパッタナーナンタクーン（Wantanee Siripattananuntakul）は、バンコクを拠点に国際的に活動するアーティストです。2025年5月よりPARADISE AIRのアーティストインレジデンスとして松戸に滞在し、「空き家」をテーマに新作のリサーチと制作を行っています。また、大阪にも1週間滞在し、都市と記憶にまつわるリサーチを行います。

シリパッタナーナンタクーンは、一緒に暮らすアフリカンパロット「ボイス（Beuys）」との共同制作や、人間と非人間の関係性、経済、所有、記憶、喪失といったテーマを鋭く掘り下げ、映像、彫刻、インスタレーションなど多様なメディアで表現しています。これまで第53回ヴェニスビエンナーレ・タイ館代表、FRIEZE London 2023、タイランドビエンナーレ2023など、世界各地で作品を発表してきました。

今回の「Beer with Artist vol.8」では、シリパッタナーナンタクーンとともに街を歩きながら、「空き家」や「家の記憶」について考えます。アーティストからの問いかけに、参加者が応える対話形式で進行し、日常のなかに潜む社会的なテーマを身近に感じるひとときを目指します。

本イベントは、「アーティストに聞いてみる」をテーマに、気軽に相談や交流ができるカジュアルな場として、新たなつながりを生み出すことを目的としています。

タイにとどまらず、さまざまな文化や国を渡り歩いてきたアーティストとしての経験や、現在滞在中の松戸でのリサーチ、さらに6月にシラパコーン大学アートセンターで開催予定の個展についての話など、自由な対話を楽しめる場になればと思います。表現することや個人としての葛藤など、アーティスト本人へのざっくばらんな質問や相談も大歓迎です。

アーティスト

 1974年、タイ・バンコク生まれのワンタニー・シリパッタナーナンタクーン（Wantanee Siripattananuntakul）は、社会・政治・経済の構造、不平等やイデオロギーが日常生活に与える影響に焦点を当て、詩的な問いとグローバルな構造への批評的なまなざしに根差した実践（映像、オーディオ、彫刻、インスタレーションなど）を行うアーティスト。

2009年には、第53回ヴェニスビエンナーレ・タイ館に選出され、その後も、National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art（ソウルl）、Museo MACRO（ローマ）、MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum（チェンマイ）、Frieze Art Fair（ロンドン）など、国際的な美術館やビエンナーレ、アートフェアで作品を発表しています。

2025年5月現在、松戸のPARADISE AIRにてアーティスト・イン・レジデンスとして滞在し、記憶、生態系、都市空間の静かな変容をテーマにした新作を制作しています。

“Walking Through Osaka’s Quiet Spaces: Memory, Nature, and What Remains”

Wantanee Siripattananuntakul is a Bangkok-based artist working internationally. Since May 2025, she has been staying in Matsudo as part of the PARADISE AIR artist-in-residence long-stay program, where she is researching and creating new work around the theme of “vacant houses.” She is also spending a week in Osaka to further explore themes related to urban space and memory.

Siripattananuntakul’s multidisciplinary practice—spanning video, sculpture, and installation—explores complex themes such as the relationship between human and non-human beings, economic systems, ownership, memory, and loss. Often collaborating with her African parrot Beuys, she has exhibited globally, including representing Thailand at the 53rd Venice Biennale, and participating in Frieze London 2023 and the Thailand Biennale 2023.

In this edition of Beer with Artist vol.8, participants will join the artist on a walk through the city, engaging in conversations around vacant homes and the memories embedded in them. The event will unfold in a dialogue format, with participants responding to questions from the artist—creating an opportunity to reflect on the hidden social layers of our everyday surroundings.

This casual event aims to be a welcoming space for exchange and connection, based on the theme “Ask the Artist.”

We hope the event will offer room for free and open dialogue—whether about her experiences working across cultures and countries, her ongoing research in Matsudo, or her upcoming solo exhibition in June at the Art Centre of Silpakorn University. Questions about artistic practice, personal struggles, or creative concerns are all welcome.

Wantanee Siripattananuntakul

Artist

Born in 1974 in Bangkok, Thailand, Wantanee Siripattananuntakul is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans video, sound, sculpture, and installation. Her work examines complex social, political, and economic systems, with a particular focus on inequality and the impact of ideological structures on everyday life.

She earned a B.F.A. from Silpakorn University and later studied under Prof. Jean-François Guiton at Hochschule für Künste Bremen, where she was awarded the Meisterschüler title in 2007.

In 2009, she represented Thailand at the 53rd Venice Biennale and has since exhibited

internationally at institutions such as the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Seoul), Museo MACRO (Rome), MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum (Chiang Mai), and Frieze Art Fair (London). Recent highlights include the 7th Anyang Public Art Project in South Korea, the Thailand Biennale in Chiang Rai, and her participation in the Art Explora Residency at Cité internationale des arts in Paris (2024).

She is currently an artist-in-residence at Paradise Air in Matsudo, Japan, where she is developing new work that explores memory, ecology, and the quiet transformation of urban space.

Her works are part of several public collections in Thailand, including the Ministry of Culture and the MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum. Through residencies and exhibitions across Asia and Europe, she continues to build a practice grounded in poetic inquiry and critical engagement with global structures.

マリカ・コンスタンティーノ（Marika Constantino）は、フィリピンを拠点に活動するアーティスト／キュレーター／カルチュラル・ワーカーです。
2012年、マニラのEscolta地区にて98B COLLABoratoryを共同設立し、歴史的建築物を活用してアートと地域をつなぐ実験的なプラットフォームを運営してきました。

現在はRoxas Cityに自ら立ち上げた「KANTINA」を拠点とし、アーティスト・イン・レジデンスを通じて地域住民と共に学び、創造する場づくりに取り組んでいます。
2017年には、エディンバラ大学の「Global Cultural Fellow」やアジアン・カルチュラル・カウンシルのニューヨーク・フェローシップに選出され、また2021年には蓮沼執太の「Silence Park」にも参加するなど、国内外で多彩な実践を行ってきました。

今回の「Beer with Artist vol.7」では、幅広いコンスタンティーノのこれまでの歩みをたどるトークイベントを開催します。 

本イベントは「アーティストに聞いてみる」をテーマに、気軽に相談や交流が楽しめるカジュアルな場として、新しいつながりを築く機会を創出します。

Marika Constantino／マリカ・コンスタンティーノ（フィリピン）

アーティスト、KANTINAディレクター

フィリピン内外の主要な展覧会に参加。キュレーター及びリサーチャーとしても活動しており、また世界各国の出版物に多数寄稿しているフリーランスのライターでもある。ザ・フィリピン・カレッジ・オブ・アーキテクチャー大学で学位を得た後、UPカレッジ・オブ・ファイン・アーツでは美術史を専攻し、さらに学識を深めた。芸術が持つ知性的、概念的、経験的な側面のバランスを保ちながら、意欲的に活動を続けている。2015年から2018年には、マニラのエスコルタにあるファースト・ユナイテッド・ビルディング・コミュニティ・ミュージアムの事業を取りまとめ、同じくマニラのイントラムロスにあるDestileria Limtuaco Museumの監督も務めた。2018年から2019年には、アジアン・カルチュラル・カウンシルのニューヨーク・フェローシップに選出され、翌年2020年2月には、西ビサヤ地方に知識と創作活動を共有するためのアートスペース「KANTINA」を創立。そして現在は、フィリピンのマニラとカピスの首都ロハスにて活動を続けている。

“Art Practices in the Philippines: Alone and Collectively”

Marika Constantino is an artist, curator, and cultural worker based in the Philippines. In 2012, she co-founded 98B COLLABoratory in the Escolta district of Manila, operating an experimental platform that connected art and the local community through a historical building.
  Currently, she runs KANTINA, an artist-in-residence program she founded in Roxas City, fostering spaces for learning and creativity in collaboration with local residents.
In 2017, she was selected as a “Global Cultural Fellow” by the University of Edinburgh and received a New York Fellowship from the Asian Cultural Council. With a strong international presence, she continues to engage with society, history, and memory through her art-based practice.

At Beer with Artist vol.7, we will hold a casual talk event where we ask Constantino about her past activities.
  This series, themed “Ask the Artist,” aims to create relaxed opportunities for conversation and connection with artists. Participants are encouraged to enjoy food and drinks while exchanging thoughts with the artist.
  Not only will we talk about the Philippines, but also casually explore questions like how she has survived as an artist and cultural worker, and learn more about her current activities in Roxas.

Artist-Curator / Founder of KANTINA

Marika Constantino is an artist, cultural worker and independent curator who has participated in significant exhibitions, events, and projects in the Philippines and abroad. She is also a freelance writer who has contributed to a number of globally distributed publications. Her early exposure to art coupled with her boundless fascination for the creative process resulted in a degree from the UP College of Architecture to further studies at the UP College of Fine Arts, with Art History as her major. Her works and projects are centered on patterns, layers, textures, and materials, and its intersection with history, memory and culture. Constantino is continually striving to strike the balance between the cerebral, conceptual and experiential aspects of art with life in general, thus, fueling her fervent passions for artistic endeavors. In 2017, she was selected to be one of the Global Cultural Fellows of the Institute of International Cultural Relations at the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. That same year she was supported by the British Council, Manila to participate in a cultural leadership program at the King’s College in London, United Kingdom. As part of her art practice, she co-directed the programs and activities of 98B COLLABoratory (2012-2018), curated and coordinated the undertakings of the First United Building Museum (2015-2018) in Escolta, Manila and curated the Destileria Limtuaco Museum (2018) in Intramuros, Manila. She was awarded the New York Fellowship for 2018-2109 by the Asian Cultural Council. In February 2020, Constantino established KANTINA, an art space for co-learning and co-creation. She is currently based in both Manila and Roxas City, Capiz in the Philippines.

『Transitory Landscape』は、フィリピン人アーティスト、ララ・モンセラットによる「AIRΔ vol.９レジデンスプログラム」の成果展です。

 ピエール・ノラの「記憶の場（Les Lieux de mémoire）」やウィニコットの「移行対象」などの理論に着想を得た本プロジェクトは、インプリント（刻印）という形で、個人の大切にしている物とそれにまつわる物語をアーカイブ化します。それをもとにコミュニティや土地が抱える集合的な癒しの記憶を共有するための展示空間をつくり、社会におけるレジリエンス（共同体における再生）の重要性を提案します。 

私たちは日々の中で、コミュニティへの帰属感や、文化的・歴史的背景を共有する他者との絆を感じているでしょうか。彼女が目にとどめ、耳をかたむけ、触れたことで、身近な物たちからTransitory Landscape-つかの間の風景-が立ち上がり、私たち自身を映し出します。

ララ・モンセラット
1993年、フィリピンのメトロマニラ、ラス・ピニャス市生まれ。フィリピン女子大学美術デザイン学部でスタジオアート（絵画）の学位を取得。 モンセラットは、「記憶」「経験」「物質」などに宿る、感覚的・現象学的な「瞑想」に関心を持ち、インスタレーション、絵画、映像といった多様なメディアを組み合わせ、形成期やトラウマ的な経験を再構築することから、それらの変容と癒しの過程を表現する。

柏本 奈津
2006年東京芸術大学美術学部先端芸術表現科を卒業。報道番組や映画制作のコーディネートや助監督、美術展やワークショップの企画サポートを行い、なら国際映画祭学生部門の審査員をつとめるなど幅広く活動する。また展覧会カタログや映画字幕など多方面で翻訳を手掛け、その一方で食に興味を持ちフードケータリングを実施している。

✅AIRΔ vol.9について

TRA-TRAVEL、国際交流基金マニラ日本文化センター(JFM)、Orange Projectとが共催し、大阪にフィリピン人アーティストを1名招聘するアーティスト・イン・レジデンスアワードです。 本アワードでは、2024年6月中旬、JFMとOrange Projectによりフィリピン国内でオープンコールを実施、フィリピン各地から65名の応募がありました。フィリピン側の選考委員により6名に絞りこまれ、日本の最終審査で、レジデンスアワード大賞者をララ・モンセラットに決定しました。モンセラットは10月から大阪に滞在し、3カ月間のアーティスト・イン・レジデンスと本成果展を実施します。

“Transitory Landscape“

“Transitory Landscape” is the culminating exhibition of the AIRΔ vol. 9 Residency Program by Filipino artist Lala Monserrat. Inspired by theories such as Pierre Nora’s “Les Lieux de mémoire” (Places of Memory) and D.W. Winnicott’s “Transitional Objects”, this project archives cherished personal objects and the stories behind them through the process of imprinting. Building on this foundation, the exhibition space is created to share collective memories of healing tied to the communities and the land,  highlighting the importance of resilience—the capacity for renewal within a community—in society.In our daily lives, do we feel a sense of belonging to a community or a connection with others who share the same cultural and historical backgrounds? Through Monserrat’s keen observation, attentive listening, and tactile engagement, Transitory Landscape—a momentary landscape—emerges from familiar objects, reflecting ourselves within them.

Lala Monserrat
Born in 1993 in Las Piñas City, Metro Manila, Philippines, Monserrat earned her degree in Studio Arts (Painting) from the Philippine Women’s University School of Fine Arts and Design. Monserrat’s autobiographical work focuses on sensorial and phenomenological meditations on memory, experience, and materiality. Her practice spans installation, painting, assemblage, and video, reconstructing formative and traumatic experiences, and expressing the processes of transformation and healing.

Natsu Kashiwamoto
Graduated in 2006 from the Department of Intermedia Art at Tokyo University of the Arts. Engaged in a diverse range of activities, including coordinating news programs, assistant directing for film productions, and supporting the planning of art exhibitions and workshops. Also served as a jury member for the student section of the Nara International Film Festival.In addition to extensive work in translation, such as exhibition catalogs and film subtitles, actively explores an interest in food by organizing catering services.

About AIRΔ vol.9
AIRΔ vol.9 is an Artist-in-Residence Award co-organized by TRA-TRAVEL, the Japan Foundation Manila (JFM), and Orange Project. This award invites one Filipino artist to Osaka for a residency. In June 2024, JFM and Orange Project held an open call for applications across the Philippines, receiving 65 entries. Through a selection process conducted by Filipino juries, the pool was narrowed down to six finalists, and the final awardee was chosen by Japanese panels.Lara Monserrat was selected as the grand prize winner. Monserrat is currently staying in Osaka for a three-month artist residency and is presenting the outcomes of her project in a final exhibition.

フードワークショップ『ハラルタイカレーをつくりながら』

AIRΔ vol.14では、名古屋を拠点にアジアとのアート交流プロジェクトを実施する「SEASUN」に滞在中のタイ・ナラーティワート出身のアーティスト、プラット・ピマーンメーン（Prach Pimarnman）さんを大阪に招聘します。

ピマーンメーンは、仏教国として知られるタイの中でもムスリムが多く住む地域の出身です。自身もムスリムであり、そのルーツをテーマにした作品制作を行っています。2023年に大阪を旅行した際、日本人が経営するハラル料理店で食事をした体験が契機となり、「ハラルフード」をテーマにしたプロジェクトをスタートしました。そして11月8日から1ヶ月間、名古屋市中川区のQ SO-KOに拠点を置く「SEASUN」に滞在し、同プロジェクトを実施しています。

大阪で開催される本イベント『ハラルタイカレーをつくりながら』では、①ハラル食材を買いに行き、②一緒に調理し、③食事をともにする中で、アーティスト自身や作品、彼の文化や社会について話を聞く機会を提供します。参加者はどのタイミングで参加・退出しても構いません。（もちろん、完成したカレーだけを食べに来ていただくのも大歓迎です）

実際にハラル食材を使ったタイカレーの作り方を学び、共につくり食べることで、タイ・ナラーティワート県について深く知る機会になればと思います。ご興味のある方は、ぜひお越しください。

SEASUNとの協働について

TRA-TRAVELはこれまで国外のアートオーガナイゼーションと共に、大阪でアーティスト・イン・レジデンス（AIR）を実施してきました。今年から、「レジデンス事業を通して国内のアートオーガナイゼーションをつなぐ」というキーワードのもと、日本国内の他都市や地域にあるレジデンス施設と協力し、新しい形のアーティスト・イン・レジデンスを実験的に開始しています。このレジデンスプログラムでは、関西でのリサーチや滞在を希望するアーティストを大阪に招聘し、滞在やリサーチ、発表などのサポートを行います。こうした活動を通じて、「国際的な視点から読み解かれる大阪・関西」を取り上げながら、「国内レジデンスのネットワーク」の創出を目指しています。

AIRΔ vol.14 ｜Prach Pimarnman
Food workshop: “Cooking Halal Thai Curry Together”

For AIRΔ vol.14, we are inviting Prach Pimarnman, an artist from Narathiwat, Thailand, who is currently in Nagoya from November 8 for a month as part of a project organized by SEASUN, which is based in Nagoya and facilitates art exchange projects between Asia and Japan. Pimarnman hails from a region in Thailand with a predominantly Muslim population, and as a Muslim himself, he explores his roots through his art. In Nagoya, he has been researching and creating works themed around “halal food,” a project that traces its beginnings to his experience dining at a halal restaurant run by a Japanese owner during a trip to Osaka in 2023.

At the Osaka event, titled “Cooking Halal Thai Curry Together”, participants will have the opportunity to ① shop for halal ingredients, ② cook together, and ③ share a meal while learning about the artist, his works, and his cultural and social background. Attendees are welcome to join or leave at any time during the event (and of course, you are more than welcome to come just to enjoy the finished curry 🙂 ).

Through learning how to prepare Thai curry using halal ingredients, cooking, and eating together, we hope this event will provide a deeper understanding of Narathiwat Province in Thailand. We warmly invite anyone interested to join us! 

About this project with SEASUN: TRA-TRAVEL has collaborated with international art organizations to conduct artist-in-residence (AIR) programs in Osaka. Starting this year, under the key theme of “connecting domestic art organizations in Japan through residency projects,” we have begun experimental initiatives for new forms of artist-in-residence programs. These initiatives involve partnerships with residency organizers in other cities and regions in Japan. Through this program, we invite artists who wish to conduct research or reside in Osaka or a wider Kansai region, supporting their stay, research, and presentations. 

✅Artist Profile: Prach Pimarnman

An artist based in Narathiwat, Thailand, Prach Pimarnman is also the founder and operator of Deʻlapae Art Space, an art space with an attached café established in 2015. His work focuses on the historical pathways of the Malay ethnic group, exploring the history of migration and the experiences and memories of people from past to present. Through mediums such as sculpture, video, and community-based projects, he seeks to present narratives of historical significance. He has participated in exhibitions such as “From Nomad to Nowhere, Warin Lab Contemporary”, Bangkok (2024),  “the FROZEN”, SAC Gallery, Bangkok (2024), “Thailand Biennale PLUVIOPHILE Pavilion”, Chiang Rai (2023) and “Bangkok Art Biennale (as part of Satu ≠ Padu Collaborative)”, Bangkok (2022)

AIRΔ vol.13では、インドネシア・バンドンを拠点に活動するアーティスト兼キュレーター、リスキー・ラズアルディをショートレジデンス作家として招聘します。リスキーは映像と拡張映画の分野で活躍し、制度化された情報やイメージの物質性をテーマとした作品を数多くの芸術祭や展覧会で発表しています。

本イベントでは、インドネシアのビデオアートと実験映画に焦点を当てた「映像スクリーニング」と「キュレータートーク」を開催します。映像の「物語性」からの脱却を目指すアーティストたちの作品が紹介され、ビジュアル表現や映像速度の操作に関する実験が展開されます。特に、インドネシアのビデオアートの先駆者ゴトット・プラコサ（Gotot Prakosa）の作品『ベガワン・チプトニング（Begawan Ciptoning）』（1976年）は、ジャワ伝統の舞台劇をタイムラプス映像で凝縮し、時間を操作することを芸術として表現することで、次世代アーティストへの新たな可能性を示唆するものとして知られています。本プログラムのビデオアート作品は、ゴトットの「時間」に対する探究心に影響を受けた現代の作品群と言えるでしょう。デジタル技術の進化による時間表現の多様性（無限ループなど）や、視覚と時間の新しい映像表現を体験できる貴重な機会です。

また、今回はシネマ形式ではなく、アフターアワーを過ごす「バー」というパブリックな場所で開催されます。19時からはキュレータートークセッションもありますので、ぜひご参加ください。

For AIRΔ vol.13, we are inviting artist and curator Rizki Lazuardi from Bandung, Indonesia, for a short residency. Known for his work in video and expanded cinema, Rizki has contributed to numerous art festivals and exhibitions, focusing on the materiality of institutionalized information and imagery.

This event will feature a “video Screening” and “curator talk,” with a focus on Indonesian video art and experimental film, highlighting artists’ efforts to break free from the “regime of narrative” that dominates conventional cinema. These artists move beyond the traditional story-driven forms of film, experimenting with visual composition, color, non-linear sequences, and innovative uses of time.

The program includes works that echo the experimental curiosity of Indonesian video art pioneer Gotot Prakosa. His 1976 piece, Begawan Ciptoning, compressed the time-stretched essence of a Javanese stage play into a five-minute time-lapse, transforming the slowing of time into a form of artistry. Scored by Japanese composer Kitaro, this work has inspired recent generations to explore new aesthetics in the manipulation of time.

The video art pieces featured in this program reflect Prakosa’s legacy, engaging with concepts like time lapse and infinite loops, facilitated by advancements in digital and online platforms. These technologies allow artists to explore endless temporal possibilities previously constrained by analog media. At the same time, some works subtly explore the embedding of narrative concepts within space, crafting new worlds through visual and temporal experimentation.

This special event, AFTER-HOURS TIME DILATION (PALAPA Special Edition), will take place in a public “bar” setting rather than a conventional cinema, creating an intimate after-hours atmosphere. A curator talk session will begin at 7 p.m., and we encourage you to join us for an evening of visual and temporal exploration.

Born in 1982 in Semarang, Indonesia. Lives and works in Bandung, Indonesia. Graduated with an MA in Visual Arts / Film from HFBK University of Fine Arts Hamburg in 2020.

An artist who works mainly with moving images and expanded cinema. Central to his practice is subjects related to institutionalized information and materiality of image. His works and programs have been presented in many festivals, exhibitions, or institutions. Lazuardi runs the Bandung-based curatorial platform Indeks.

Nobuhisa Shimoda
Born in 1957 in Kawasaki. He made his record debut in 1979 with the album “Moon Dancer” from Alfa Records. In 1988, he participated in the establishment of Xebec Hall in Kobe Port Island and served as its producer until 2000. In 1998, he became a member of C.A.P. (Conference on Art and Planning) and served as its president from 2015 to 2023. In 2016, he launched the international collaborative project “See Saw Seeds” with overseas art groups, focusing on artist exchanges, a project that is still ongoing today.

アーティスト・イン・レジデンスプログラム「AIRΔ vol.12」

AIRΔ vol.12では、2023年にICA京都滞在中に着想を得たリサーチプロジェクト「Toytopia」を展開するために、再来日したオーストリア・ウィーン拠点のビジュアルアーティストファニ・フッタークネヒト（Fanni Futterknecht）と、作曲家カミロ・ラトーレ（Camilo Latorre）を招聘します。

日本は世界最大の玩具輸出国の一つとして知られ、玩具と遊びの文脈において世界的な影響力を持ちます。ゴジラ、戦隊もの、スーパーマリオ、ポケモンなど、日本の漫画やゲーム、アニメのキャラクターは、世界中の人々の想像力を掻き立て、デザインやポップカルチャーのトレンドを生み出すなど、国境を越えて強い存在感を示します。

本リサーチプロジェクトでは、特に「カワイイ文化」と「ソフビ」に焦点を当て、玩具の政治的側面に対する批評的な考察を行います。

彼らは、2024年9月から1ヶ月レジデンスパートナーである此花区のFIGYAで滞在制作を行いパフォーマンス及び映像作品を制作、そして9月末に1日限りのパフォーマンスを行う予定です。

Artist-in-Residence Program “AIR Δ vol.12”

AIR Δ vol.12 invites Fanni Futterknecht, a Vienna-based visual artist in collaboration with composer Camilo Latorre, who have returned to Japan to further develop their ongoing research project “Toytopia,” which was inspired during Fannis’ 2023 fellowship at ICA Kyoto.

Japan is known as one of the world’s largest exporters of toys and holds significant global influence in the context of toys and play. Characters from Japanese manga, games, and animations, such as Godzilla, Power Rangers, Super Mario, and Pokémon, shape the imagination of people worldwide, creating trends in design and pop culture and establishing a strong presence beyond Japan’s borders. This research project critically examines the political aspects of toys, with a particular focus on “Kawaii Culture” and “Sofubi.”

The two artists will be in residence at FIGYA in Konohana-ku for one month starting in September 2024 developing performative and film works, culminating in a one-day performance at the end of September.

Fanni Futterknecht 

Fanni Futterknecht works in an interdisciplinary artistic field between video, performance and installation. Her practice examines performance in the time- based visual and performing arts and its relationship to text and narrative. Part of this exploration is the examination of media translation processes and the questioning of the media used in the respective artistic context. Repeated stays in Japan have significantly contributed to shaping and deepening her interest in Japanese performance culture. As part of a PhD in Practice, she is currently researching performances and their instrumentalisation through language in public and semi-public spaces, taking cultural and political dimensions into account.

Camilo Latorre

Camilo is a Colombian composer and writer based in Vienna. He studied piano pedagogy at MDW in Vienna and later composition at the Plovdiv Academy of Music and at the Anton Bruckner University in Linz. TRA-TRAVELは2023年から、国際交流基金マニラ日本文化センター(JFM)と共に、フィリピン人アーティストを大阪に招聘するアーティスト・イン・レジデンス（AIR）を大阪で実施してまいりました。今年度から、エクスチェンジプロジェクトをスタートし、日本人アーティストをフィリピンのバコロドにあるOrange Projectに招聘するレジデンスを開始します。

推薦型コンペティションのAIRΔ vol.10は、第一次審査にて日本在住の3名の有識者が、各アーティスト1名を推薦し、３名のアーティスト「筒 | tsu-tsu」「トモトシ」「山口塁」が選ばれました。そしてフィリピン側の第二次審査を経て、最終1名のレジデンスアーティストを、「トモトシ」に決定しました。以下に審査評、推薦理由をまとめましたので、ご覧ください。

＜第２次審査評＞

まず日本の3名のアーティストのプロポーザルに大いに興奮しました。それぞれのアーティストの提案は、いずれもグローバル／ローカルな文化的な物語に共鳴するもので、最終的に1名のアーティストの選定は、熟考の末に行いました。

筒 | tsu-tsuは、自分と同じ日に生まれた多様な文化や人々に魅せられており、バコロド住民とのパフォーマンスアートを通じて、そのつながりを探ることを目的とするものでした。彼の個人的な人間関係に焦点を当てたプロジェクトではありますが、深い洞察に誘うものでした。

山口塁は、ネグレンセ文化とその豊かな集いの伝統や、多様な料理の影響を反映し、食の共同体的側面に深く掘り下げるプランを提案しました。彼のコンセプトはシンプルでありつつも、私たちのコミュニティの本質を的確に捉えるものでした。

トモトシの「ストリート・イナサルとフランチャイズ・イナサルの邂逅」という革新的なプロジェクトは、地元の食品ベンダーが直面する現在の課題に関連しており、際立って見えました。その提案では、商業開発によって地元の名物が置き換えられる問題に取り組んでおり、バコロドで強く認識される懸念を反映したものでした。彼の提案は地域の問題に光をあてつつ、経済的変遷のなか、文化保存というグローバルなテーマにも触れるものでした。

上記の選考の結果、トモトシをAIRΔ vol.10 レジデンスアーティストとして選定いたしました。彼のプロポーザルは目的が明瞭で、また私たち地域住民や地域文化に与えうる影響を深く理解していると感じたためです。

As discussed in the meeting, we are excited to host all three Japanese artists for our residency, a decision made after much deliberation. Each artist’s proposal uniquely resonates with our global and local cultural narrative. 

Tsu-Tsu, films is fascinated by diverse cultures and individuals born on the same day as him, and aims to explore this connection through performance art with a Bacolod resident. Although his focus on personal human connections, his project promises profound insights. 

Rui Yamaguchi, plans to delve into the communal aspect of food, reflecting the Negrense culture and its rich traditions of gatherings and diverse culinary influences. His concept, while simple, effectively captures the essence of our community.  

Tomotosi,  with his innovative “Street Inasal meets Franchise Inasal” project, stood out due to its relevance to the current challenges faced by local food vendors. This project addresses the displacement of local delicacies by commercial developments, a concern deeply felt in Bacolod. His work not only highlights regional issues but also speaks to global themes of cultural preservation amid economic shifts. Therefore, we have selected Tomotosi as our top choice for the residency because we feel he clearly understands the purpose of his proposal and how this affects our people and our regional culture. We recommend ensuring that he has all necessary documentation from participants for his art and documentation.

Candy Nagrampa

Candy Nagrampa is a film worker based in Bacolod City, Philippines. She is the Projects and Exhibition Director of the Orange Project, a private artist-run space that supports and promotes contemporary art in the Philippines. Nagrampa is also active in the arts community. She has organized several exhibitions, public art projects and inter-community collaborations. She has worked as an assistant director for several indie and mainstream films. Her debut directorial is a documentary short film “Ang Kalibutan ni Nunelucio Alvarado”.She is passionate about using her craft to promote social change and to create a more inclusive and equitable society.

CHARLIE S. CO

CHARLIE S. CO has produced more than 40 solo exhibitions since 1983, presented internationally in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and The Philippines. A mature and prolific career, Co established his own distinctive style early on, an individuality that has awarded him many accolades among them the 13 Artists Award (1990), Juror’s Choice of The 6th Philip Morris ASEAN Art Awards (1999), an Artist in Residence in Japan, China and Australia, Patnubay ng Sining at Kalinangan (Pintura) (2003), and the Dr. Jose Rizal Award for Excellence (2007). Furthermore, Co has represented the Philippines in important regional surveys including Brazil’s 23rd Sao Paulo Biennale (1996), 2nd Asia Pacific Triennial (Australia 1996), “Asian Modernism” at the Japan Foundation Asian Cultural Centre, Tokyo (1995, traveling to Bangkok and Jakarta). Despite his successes Co’s practice has remained deeply rooted to his home of Bacolod City, where he runs and co-owns Orange Project supporting emerging Visayan talent. Co was pivotal in establishing VIVA EX-CON (Visayan Visual Art Exhibition and Conference) in 1990 and is currently the longest running biennial in the Philippines.

Manny Montelibano 

Mariano “Manny” G. Montelibano III (b. 1971) lives and works in Bacolod, the province of Negros Occidental, Philippines. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City, where he is currently Director of the Institute of the Moving Image. He also received his training through experience as technical director at University of St. La Salle in Bacolod and various film projects. His work often explores contemporary socio-political, economic, and religious structures through video and inter-media installations, reflecting on the Philippine cultural landscape within a broader, universal context. He is an active cultural worker in the Philippines, especially in the Visayas region, affiliated with various organizations such as the National Commission for Culture and the Arts of the Philippines, Black Artists in Asia Association, and VIVA EXCON Organization. In 2015, he represented the Philippines at the 56th Venice Biennale.

AIRΔ vol.9は、TRA-TRAVEL、国際交流基金マニラ日本文化センター(JFM)、Orange Projectとが共催し、大阪にフィリピン人アーティストを1名招聘するアーティスト・イン・レジデンスアワードです。

本アワードでは、2024年6月中旬、JFMとOrange Projectによりフィリピン国内でオープンコールを実施、フィリピン各地から65名の応募がありました。フィリピン側の選考委員により6名に絞りこまれ、日本の最終審査で、レジデンスアワード大賞者を Lala Monserrat（ララ モンセラット）に決定しました。大賞者は10月から大阪に滞在し、3カ月間のアーティスト・イン・レジデンスと成果展を実施します。

以下は、上位3名の審査評になります。そして65名の応募アーティストに、改めて御礼を申し上げます。

Selection of Filipino Artists for AIRΔ Vol. 9 in Osaka:

AIRΔ vol.9 is an Artist-in-Residence Award co-hosted by TRA-TRAVEL, the Japan Foundation Manila (JFM), and Orange Project, which invites one artist from the Philippines to Osaka. In mid-June 2024, an open call was conducted across the Philippines by JFM and Orange Project, receiving 65 applications from various regions of the country. The selection committee in the Philippines narrowed the applicants down to six, and in the final selection in Japan, Lala Monserrat was chosen as the recipient of the Residency Award. The awardee will stay in Osaka starting in October for a three-month artist residency, culminating in an exhibition.

Below are the reviews for the top three finalists. We also extend our sincere thanks to all 65 artists who applied this year.

＜審査評＞

Doktor Karayom (ドクトル・カラヨム) のプロポーザルは、フィリピンの伝統的なカトリックの祭壇文化と、それが日本で生活するフィリピン人によってどのように適応されているかに焦点を当てたものであり魅力的な内容でした。また、日本の寺院の創造過程や、日本の信仰においてあまり探究されていない祈り、儀式、そして超常現象にも踏み込み、フィリピンと日本の精神性の間にある形而上学的な関係を可視化する可能性を秘めたものでした。

Renz Baluyot（レンツ・バルヨット）のプロポーザルは、彼自身の父が元海外労働者であったという家族史を織り交ぜ、コミュニティとレジリエンス（復元力）に焦点を当てたものでした。大阪在住のOFW（フィリピンの海外労働者）やフィリピン移民の生活を調査し、彼/彼女らの個人的な物語とフィリピンのディアスポラ全体の理解を橋渡しすることを目的とするものでした。さらに、大阪の歴史とフィリピンコミュニティのつながりを強調し、過去と現在を結ぶ大阪という場所の特性を考慮した提案であることが特に注目されました。

Lala Monserrat（ララ モンセラット）のプロポーザルは、『移ろう風景：共同体の絆と集団的記憶の形』というテーマのもと、地域の「治癒」の伝統と文化遺産を探り、再構築することを目的とするものでした。本プロジェクトでは、大阪の博物館でのリサーチや、地元民や職人との交流を通じて、儀式、家庭、文化上など様々な在り方で重要とされる品々を、その意義を含め調査が行われます。そこから、デジタルアーカイブを作成するなど、多様な形での協働が期待される内容です。

移ろう世界の中で「治癒」を考えるMonserratの視点は、単純なアーカイブにとどまらない広がりを示しており、MonserratをAIRΔ vol.9のレジデンスアーティストとして選出いたしました。

Doktor Karayom‘s proposal was compelling in its focus on the traditional Catholic altar culture of the Philippines and its adaptation by Filipinos living in Japan. Additionally, he aims to delve into the creation of Japanese temples and investigate prayers, rituals, and supernatural phenomena that are not commonly explored in Japanese faith, seeking to uncover the metaphysical connections between Filipino and Japanese spirituality.

Renz Baluyot’s proposal interweaves his family history, particularly the experience of his father as a former overseas worker, with a focus on community and resilience. He aims to investigate the lives of OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers) and Filipino immigrants living in Osaka, seeking to bridge their personal narratives with a broader understanding of the Filipino diaspora. Furthermore, the proposal emphasizes the connection between Osaka’s history and the Filipino community, making it particularly noteworthy for its consideration of Osaka as a place that links the past with the present.

Lala Monserrat‘s proposal, under the theme “Transitory Landscape: A Form of Communal Bonds and Collective Memory,” aims to explore and reconstruct the traditions and cultural heritage of healing in the region. The project will involve research at Osaka’s museums and engagement with local residents and artisans to investigate the significance of various objects considered important in rituals, households, and culture. This research will lead to the creation of a digital archive, anticipating diverse forms of collaboration. Monserrat’s perspective on “healing” within a transitory world reflects a broader scope that goes beyond a simple archive, leading to her selection as the AIRΔ vol.9 resident artist.

TRA-TRAVELはこれまで国外のアートオーガナイゼーションと共に、アーティスト・イン・レジデンス（AIR）を、大阪で実施してまいりました。今年から、『レジデンス事業を通して国内のアートオーガナイゼーションをつなぐ』ことをキーワードに、日本国内の他都市／地域のレジデンス施設と共同で、新たな形のアーティスト・イン・レジデンスを開始します。

このレジデンスプログラムでは、関西でリサーチを必要としつつも関西外で滞在するアーティストを大阪に招聘し、滞在やリサーチ、発表などのサポートをおこないます。このような活動を通して『国際的な視点から読み解かれる大阪／関西』を取り上げ、『国内レジデンスのネットワーク』を創出することを試みます。

本企画AIRΔ vol.11では、「トーキョーアーツアンドスペースレジデンシー（TOKASレジデンシー）」（東京）に滞在していた、アメリカを拠点に活動するハナン美弥さんを、大阪に招聘します。ハナンは、2024年5月から7月にかけてTOKASにて滞在制作を行い、1900年頃アメリカに渡った日本人移民、とりわけ、二度と日本の地を踏むことなく亡くなった移民者たちの足跡を追うために、複数の国内地域を訪問しました。本リサーチは関西でも継続し、大阪での滞在ではリサーチに関するトークイベント『夢の国？　日本ーアメリカの移民史』を行います。

そしてこのトークゲストとして、日系美術家たちを紹介した展覧会「トランスボーダー 和歌山とアメリカをめぐる移民と美術」（和歌山県立近代美術館、2023年）の担当学芸員の一人、奥村一郎さんを招待し、日本ーアメリカの移民について、

ハナン美弥

アメリカ合衆国を拠点としている学術的アーティスト。熊本県出身で、日本では放射線技師として病院に務めていたが、1998年に渡米。死の哲学を基にした作品が多い。現在は、渡米した日本人移民を中心とした、忘れられている歴史を追及した作品を製作中。ネバダ・アートカウンシル・フェローシップ(2023)、ジェンテル・アーティスト・イン・レジデンス(2022)、シエラ・アートファンデーション・グラント(2018)などをはじめとする、多くを受賞。ブライトン・プレスとの共同制作のアーティストブックはアメリカ議会図書館、ハーバード大学、スタンフォード大学など30以上もの施設のコレクションに追加されている。2012年にはTEDx San Diegoからインスタレーションを依頼され、発表。2013年にはサン・ディエゴ・メサ・カレッジより優秀卒業生賞を与えられた。現在ネバダ州立大学リノ校の准教授。https://www.miyahannan.com

■イベント前インタビュー

Qenji Yoshida（以下QY）: こんにちは。ハナンさんは日本で放射線技師として務めておられ、その後1998年に渡米されていますが、アメリカでアートの道に進まれたのでしょうか？

ハナン美弥（以下ハナン）：正直言って、全然予期していなかったことなんですが、渡米後、大学でドローイングのクラスを取ったのがきっかけです。その頃まだ英語があまり出来なかったのですが、言葉がなくても思っていることや考えていることを表現できて楽しかったんです。先生方に勧められて、気がついたら大学院まで卒業していました。とにかく人一倍努力しました。考えることも体を使って物を作る事も好きで、アートはその両方を満たしてくれました。

QY：放射線技師のキャリアから、なぜ渡米に至ったのかも伺いたいのですが、今日は作品について聞かせてください。これまでさまざまな制作や活動をされていますが、ご自身の制作やコンセプトについて教えていただけますか？

ハナン：大きく言うと、死に関することを題材にしています。私は世界を『次から次へとつながる一連の事象や生命』と見ていて、自然や風景はこれらの誠実な記録だと思っています。人類と、自然に刻まれている情報の関係に興味があります。扱う素材は特に決まっていません。コンセプト次第で決めて、実験的な手法を使うのが好きで、プロセスと使う材料の意味を大事にしています。

QY：『次から次へとつながる一連の事象や生命』の記録としての自然や風景という言葉は、数々の死（と生）の層がどんなものにも見えてくるように感じますね。今回の日本滞在ではリサーチに重点を置かれていると話されていましたが、どんな調べものをされているのでしょうか？

ハナン：ここ数年は、〈忘れられている、もしくは失われてしまいそうな話〉を呼び起こして保存しようという試みで作品を作っています。偶然にアメリカのへんぴな場所で日本人のお墓を見つけました。それは家族を支えるために出稼ぎに来て、残念ながら若くしてアメリカで亡くなってしまった方々のお墓だと後に知りました。その足跡を起点に、明治末にアメリカの鉄道建設に従事するため、海を渡った日本人出稼ぎ労働者や移民の歴史を調べています。それは今の日本の方々に知ってほしい歴史です。

QY：長くアメリカで暮らすハナンさん自身に重ねるように、移民の歴史へ関心を持たれているのかと想像します。それはハナンさん自身のアイデンティティについて考える／知ることと繋がっていると思います。少し抽象的な質問になってしまいますが、リサーチ対象とはどのような距離感を持って最終的な作品まで昇華されるのでしょうか？例えば、あくまで客観的な資料として見ているのか、またはより感情的に対象に近づくのか・・

ハナン：いい質問ですね。これは私も注意深く考えているところです。私としては、本で読めるような一般的な歴史よりは、個人的なストーリーに興味があります。一人一人の話を通して歴史を知るという事がアートにできる事だと思いま　す。ただ、歴史を取り扱うのはとても責任のいることで、結果的にどのような作品になるにしても、しっかりリサーチをしてよく知っておくべきだと思います。今回のリサーチで、たくさんの本や資料を見ましたが、一番印象的だったのは、実際の移民達の書いた日記や手記でした。あまり感情的になると主観が入りすぎてしまうので、いいバランスを見つけたいと思います。

QY：最後の質問です。現在ネヴァダ州にお住まいとのことですが、そこからは今の日本はどのように見えていますか？

ハナン：ネヴァダというよりは、アメリカと日本両方を知っている者からの意見として、正直に言っていいでしょうか？（笑）今の日本はちょっと心配です。日本の食、文化、技術力、国民性などは今でも尊敬されていますが、政治的、経済的、国際的には日本は昔ほど重要視されていないように思います。日本には、世界情勢に興味がなかったり、知らないふりをしている人が多く、現実を見ずに内側にこもって安心している感じがします。

QY：内側にこもっているのは、日本にいても近年更に加速しているように感じています。特に若い人は昔ほど気軽には海外に行くことも難しく、でも半面、情報自体はインターネットで広く世界を知った気にはなれます。ただ日本語の情報にはジャーナリズムも少なく、多すぎるフェイクニュースとそもそもの情報過多から何を信じていいかも読めばいいかも分からないような状況が、自家中毒に気付けないような状況を招いているように感じています。

ハナン：確かに、情報の氾濫は、いろんな錯覚や誤解を招く可能性がありますね。だからこそ、情報を鵜呑みにせず、論理的・客観的・合理的に思考を展開し、分析する力（英語でいうcritical thinking）を身につけなければなりませんね。

Open Call for Applications: Art and Cultural Practitioners (from Japan) 

Program timeline: 1st August – 23th september 2024

The Professional Exchange Program is to support practitioners who are in the field of arts and culture working as  curator, artist, cultural worker, and critic from Japan to have the chance for a multi-week visit and exchange in Taiwan, hosted by an individual or an organization who has the related experiences and skills to help them develop the visiting practitioner’ personal and professional goals. The visiting practitioner also contributes to the host and art community of Taiwan by giving reflective observations and suggestions.

Taiwan Art Space Alliance and  Art Site of Railway Warehouse, Hsin-Chu City also facilitates coordination and logistics of the exchange as needed. 

Eligibility and criteria:

Designed for one Art and Cultural practitioner working as curator, artist, cultural worker, and critic from Japan.

How does the program work?

Organizers will offer the visiting practitioner :

• Provide accommodation ( shared creative space) during the Program.
• Local transportation fee (up to the given limit based on actual expenses and with a given maximum NT2000 for staying ).
• A round-trip economy class ticket. 
• NT$ 8,000 for Living expenses. (about USD$240)
• NT$ 10,000 for written creation (about USD$ 300) 

• Visiting trip, connecting practitioner to cultural sites and organizations.

The visiting practitioner is required to:

• Give presentations in separate sessions of the 2024 Res Artist Conference and 2024 TASA Annual Meeting with Southeast Asia Professional Exchange Platform, which topic is regarding “Arts Residencies in Taiwan Today” and assess the current landscape of Art Residency in Taiwan and explore future opportunities.  
• 1 article ( 2 pages in English) about the observation of  Taiwan Art-in-Residence now. The article will be presented in the publication platform about the AiR, and on the official website of TASA. 
• conduct workshops during the residency (optional) ( we will leave this decision for the final selecting candidate, if any)

Our Organizers: 

Taiwan Art Space Alliance, (hereinafter “TASA”) entitled TASA was established in 2016. It integrates dozens of art villages and art spaces across Taiwan and holds regular meetings every year across Taiwan to discuss the position and role of artists in residence (AiR) in contemporary art through an annual series of meetings and lectures. TASA was to serve as a platform for the exchange and integration of resources among artists in residence (AiR) and art spaces throughout Taiwan. In addition, by connecting organizations and planning events, TASA endeavors to improve and strengthen the overall environment for art and culture in Taiwan, while attracting new energy in promoting international cooperation and expanding the global network among art institutions.

Art Site of Railway Warehouse, Hsin-Chu City, was formerly known as Warehouse No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 of Taiwan Railway Company in Hsinchu Station. It was built in 1941 during the Japanese Occupation and was registered as a historical building in 2015. The wooden roof built by using the traditional jointing method has been completely preserved. The original truck platform has been converted into a platform for viewing trains. Each year the Art Site offers5-8 positions for artist-in-residency programs. In addition, the Art Site also holds exhibitions, art and cultural events very often.Hsinchu City Art Site of Railway Warehouse has been operated by Accton Arts Foundation since 2016.

Accton Arts Foundation was established in 2000 with the support of Accton Technology Coperation. We mainly focus on “promoting art education”, “nurturing artistic talents” and “connecting art communities” to respond to the missions and vision of the Arts Foundation.

TRA-TRAVEL is an art hub/collective with the mission of “creating international art pathways in Osaka.” It engages in a wide range of artistic practices and projects, including curating exhibitions, running artist-in-residence programs, organizing art workshops for children, and hosting international conferences and talks. As a mobile project, TRA-TRAVEL does not have a fixed location; instead, it collaborates with various local and international art spaces and organizations to create unique projects.

▼AIR Δ vol.8 概要

TRA-TRAVELは2021年から、公共および民間のアートオーガナイゼーションと共に、アーティスト・イン・レジデンス（AIR）を大阪で7回実施してまいりました。本年から、『AIRにおけるクリエイティブエコノミーを考える』をキーワードに、国外のギャラリーとコラボレーションするアーティスト・イン・レジデンスを開始します。

本プログラムでは、作品の構想から販売に至るまでのレジデンスプログラムの流れを、アーティストとギャラリーと共にデザインすることで、アーティストの滞在制作、作品発表、そして作品の「販売」に至るまでの動線をもつAIRプログラムを試験的に実施します。
本滞在制作は、アーティストはもちろん、協働するギャラリーにおいても、作品の流通だけでなく、派遣アーティストが新たなインスピレーションを得る機会と捉えています。

AIRΔ vol.8では、北京のギャラリー「WHITE SPACE」が推薦する、中国の南京及び大阪を拠点に制作を行うアーティスト、ヨウ・ケン（楊健／Yang Jian）を招聘します。ヨウ・ケンは、2024年6月から7月にかけてレジデンスパートナーである北加賀屋のSuper Studio Kitakagayaで滞在制作を行い、また7月19日から21日まで「ART OSAKA」に合わせて開催されるオープンスタジオにて成果展と作品販売を行います。そのほか、アーティストの面会やインタビューも随時受け入れるなど、有機的なレジデンスプログラムを目指していますので、ご興味のある方は、ぜひTRA-TRAVELにご連絡ください。

＊作家とギャラリーの経費を除いた作品の売上は、次年度の本プログラムのAIR費用にあてるなど、循環型クリエイティブエコノミーを計画しています。

福建省出身で、厦門大学で修士号を取得したヨウ・ケンは、2012年からWhite Spaceの所属アーティストになりました。彼は、2009年にアムステルダムのRijksakademie van Beeldende Kunstenで奨学金を受けるなど、数々の重要な功績で知られています。その作品は文化の壁を越えて多くの観客に共鳴し、中国国内外の展覧会で展示され、また、メディアアート分野でも重要な存在として認識されています。

AIRΔ vol.8 in collaboration with WHITE SPACE Beijing

Since 2021, TRA-TRAVEL has collaborated with public and private art organizations to conduct seven artist-in-residence (AIR) programs in Osaka. Starting this year, we are excited to launch a new artist-in-residence initiative in collaboration with international galleries under the theme “Rethinking the Creative Economy in the Context of AIR.” 

In this program, we aim to experimentally implement an artist-in-residence (AIR) program that encompasses the entire process from the artist’s residency and creation to the presentation and sale of their works. By designing the residency program flow together with artists and galleries—from the conception of artworks to their sale—we seek to create a seamless pathway for artists from their creative process to the commercial distribution of their works.

Our overseas gallery partners expect that by not only facilitating the distribution of artworks but also sending artists to Osaka to participate in the AIR program, they can provide opportunities for artists to gain new inspiration and foster creativity.

For AIRΔ vol.8, we are pleased to invite Yang Jian (楊健), an artist based in Nanjing and Osaka, recommended by the Beijing gallery “WHITE SPACE.” Yang Jian will undertake a residency at Super Studio Kitakagaya in Kitakagaya from June to July 2024. He will showcase and sell his works during the open studio event from 19 to 21 July coinciding with the art fair “ART OSAKA.” . In addition, we will arrange meetings and interviews with the artist, aiming for a dynamic and interactive residency program. Interested parties are encouraged to contact TRA-TRAVEL for more details.

*Proceeds from the sale of the artworks, excluding the expenses of the artist and the gallery, will be reinvested into the AIR program for the following year, supporting a sustainable creative economy.

Yang Jian 

Born in 1982 in Fujian Province, China, Yang Jian is an artist whose work primarily focuses on video and installation. He received a BA (2004) and MA (2007) from the Art College of Xiamen University and was a resident artist at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Netherlands from 2009 to 2010, supported with funding from Stichting Niemeijer Fonds (NL). He won the Judging Panel Special Award  of  HUAYU Youth Award in 2015. OCAT Young Media Artists of the Year in 2018.He has exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibitions in China,Germany, USA and the Netherlands, He currently lives and works in Nanjing China and Osaka Japan.

WHITE SPACE

WHITE SPACE was founded in 2004 in Beijing and relocated to the current 1,500-square-meter space in Caochangdi in 2009 to embark on a new series of art programs, becoming the first contemporary art gallery in China to focus on working with young artists. In 2021, WHITE SPACE opened its brand new 700-square-meter space in Shunyi district of Beijing. As a professional gallery that promotes the dissemination and exchange of contemporary art worldwide, the gallery has worked alongside each artist to deepen individual artistic practices, and becoming one of the foremost pioneering spaces for art in China and Asia.

Yang Jian, a native of Fujian Province with a Master’s degree from Xiamen University, has been a key figure at White Space Gallery since 2012. His work, recognized for transcending cultural barriers, resonates with diverse audiences worldwide and has been featured in notable solo and group exhibitions both in China and internationally. 大きな赤土のように見えるもの、実際にはシロアリの巣を運んでいる匿名の男を追った。 映像の中では何の説明も与えられないまま、男はどこへ行くにもそれを持ち歩き、細心の注意を払ってその物体を扱う。 ここではアーティストは、集団的な関与と文化的生産のより大きな様式における儀式の機能を考察している。 アーティストの活動は中央高原の複数の歴史、生活、民族性、神話に大きく影響され、関わってきたが、作品の中で描かれている農村のシャーマニズムは架空のもの。 なぜ男がシロアリの巣に惹かれるのかは明確には示されないが、だからこそ、献身についての作品『Journey of a Piece of Soil（ジャーニー・オブ・ピース・オブ・ソイル）』が作品として非常に魅力的なのである。さまざまな信仰が私たちに求める、堅実で妥協のない決意を力強く描いているのだ。

Trương Công Tùng, Journey of a Piece of Soil (2015)

We follow an unnamed man carrying what appears to be a large piece of red soil, in actuality a termite nest. Without any explanation provided in the film, the man brings it with him wherever he goes, devoting great care and attention to the object. Here, the artist considers the function of the ritual in larger modes of collective engagement and cultural production. While the artist’s practice has been largely influenced and engaged with the multiple histor(ies), lives, ethnicities and mythologies of the Central Highlands, the rural shamanism depicted in the work is a fictive one. There’s no clear indication why the man is drawn to the termite’s nest, and yet that is what makes Journey of a Piece of Soil so fascinating as a work about devotion: it powerfully depicts the steady and uncompromised determination our various faiths require of us.

Trương Công Tùng grew up in Dak Lak among various ethnic minorities in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. He graduated from the Ho Chi Minh Fine Arts University in 2010, majoring in lacquer painting. With research interests in science, cosmology, philosophy and the environment, Trương Công Tùng works with a range of media, including video, installation, painting and found objects, which reflect personal contemplations on the cultural and geopolitical shifts of modernization, as embodied in the morphing ecology, belief or mythology of a land. He is also a member of Art Labor (founded in 2012), a collective working between visual art and social/life sciences to produce alternative non-formal knowledge via artistic and cultural activities in various public contexts and locales. In 2023 he was awarded the Han Nefkens Foundation Southeast Asian Video Art Production Prize.

In 1995, Veronika Radulovic brought Singaporean artist Amanda Heng and artist/lecturer Trương Tân to her classroom at University of Fine Arts Hanoi. Together with the students, they did an improvised performance workshop and made an unauthorised video recording out of it. Around that same time, the group of artists took their experiments out of the class, out of the city, and out of any scrutiny, into the nearing mountains and countryside where some of the first performance art pieces were trialled and documented. Over 26 years later, Radulovic uses this original material to reflect and comment on the unusual approach to performance art in Vietnam in the 1990s. She asks some of the participants about the situation at that time and provides an up-to-date view at the historical context in which these videos and the workshop were created.

Veronika Radulovic first came to Hanoi in the early 1990s to study Vietnamese lacquer art. From 1994 to 2005 she was the first international lecturer at the Hanoi University of Fine Arts, sponsored by DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service). ‘Becoming Alluvium continues Thảo Nguyên Phan’s ongoing research into the Mekong River and the cultures that it nurtures. Through allegory it explores the environmental and social changes caused by the expansion of agriculture, overfishing and economic migration of farmers to urban areas. […] Although non-chronological in narrative and associative in logic, ‘Becoming Alluvium’ unfolds over three-chapters telling stories of destruction, reincarnation, and renewal. Bringing together a host of literary references from Khmer folktales, the poetry of Rabindranath Tagore, to The Lover by Marguerite Duras, and Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities. History and mythology flow and ebb through this film, like the river it traces which snakes through Tibet, China, Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam.

Assuming different humorous and irreverent roles and combining these with segments of an actual performance done in Ho Chi Minh City, the artist reexamines news outlets as one of the primary sources that generates and reifies stereotypes on the LGBTQIA+ community in Vietnam. By recreating scenes of memory, interweaving it with pop song fantasy and family anecdotes, the video contemplates on the role that memory and external forces play in formation of one’s identity. The work was produced and screened as part of ‘Lưng Chừng / In the Middle of Nowhere’, a screening project welcoming alternative narratives, conversation on queer identities, examining and deconstructing the stigmatisation on the Vietnamese queer community.

Phạm Nguyễn Anh Tú is a visual artist born and raised in Sài Gòn, Việt Nam. He approaches video making through combinations of animated collages and chroma key compositing to recreate scenes of personal memories, fantasy and inner dialogues. He is interested in using art as a site for experimenting and critically reflecting, to grasp the systems of knowledge that structure our world in order to rethink and reimagine our engagement with the physical world.

He is the recipient of the Prince Claus Fund’s Seed Award, 9th International Biennial of University Visual Art Award, PULSE Award, Dogma Prize 2019 and 2021, and Ignite Creativity Grant 2021 from Goethe Institut. His works have been shown internationally at The British Museum, International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, 4th Thai Short Film and Video Festival, Stuttgart Film Winter, Kassel Dokfest, New Mexico Experiments in Cinema International Film Festival. He is also the founder of Nãi Cinema and the co-founder of Saigon Experimental Film Festival. He lives and works between Germany and Vietnam.

「プレシャス・レア・フォーセール」は、1990年代のベトナムの映像における表象を広く取り上げる。雄大かつ神聖な獣の住処から、戦争の英雄譚やソーシャル・リアリズム（労働者階級の現実の生活から社会・政治的状況を描いた作風≠社会主義リアリズム）悲劇の背景としての役割まで、自然の表象は、ベトナムの社会・政治的文脈の変化によって形作られてきた。

映画製作者が環境をどのように描いてきたかを振り返ることで、ブイはカメラのために自然を利用する倫理に疑問を抱く。フランス人が撮影した初期の民族誌学映画では、ベトナムのジャングルが手付かずの原始的な風景として描かれていたが、今日の荒廃した森林や整然と区画された土地の映像は、台頭する中産階級にとって自然がどのように商品となったかを明らかにしている。不動産開発業者やスリルを求めるビデオブロガーによってスクリーン上に捉えられた自然のイメージは常に形を変え、メディア消費の無限ループを加速させる。

Lêna Bùi, Precious. Rare. For Sale. (2023)

‘Precious. Rare. For Sale.’ takes a broad sweep at the presentation of nature in Vietnamese moving images from the 1990s. From being an abode for majestic and magical beasts, to serving as a backdrop for war heroics and social realist tragedies, representations of nature have been shaped by Vietnam’s changing socio-political contexts.

Reflecting on how filmmakers have portrayed the environment, Bùi questions the ethics of exploiting nature for the camera. While early ethnographic films shot by the French depicted the Vietnamese jungle as an untouched, primitive landscape, today’s images of razed forests and neatly-partitioned land plots reveal how nature has become a commodity for a rising middle-class. Captured on screen by property developers and thrill-seeking vloggers alike, nature’s images shape-shift constantly, feeding into an endless loop of mediated consumption.

Lêna Bùi produces works that are drawn sometimes from anecdotes, and at other times from in-depth articulations of human relationships to nature and the impact of rapid development on people’s lives. Working mainly through painting and video, she reflects on the ways in which tradition, faith, death and dreams influence our behaviour and perception.

Lêna holds a B.A in East Asian Studies from Wesleyan University. Her work has been shown in solo, group exhibitions and screening programmes such as Monograph 2023 by Asian Film Archive; 2022 Jeju Biennale, the Asia Culture Center, South Korea; Sharjah Art Foundation, UAE; Sàn Art and The Factory Contemporary Art Center, Vietnam; Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Germany; and the Wellcome Collection, London.

A sardonic commentary on the yearning for Eden, ‘My Paradise’ features Quynh Đông’s own parents as protagonists within a dreamlike and kitschy landscape of Vietnamese idealism. She references a myriad of cultural icons, motifs and settings including oriental-styled maquettes of a teahouse, pavilion and half-moon Chinese bridge made by the artist’s father, to reinforce an overblown nostalgia fed by mythic imagery. […] Marrying both traditional and pop imagery with a garish sensibility, Đông satirises the construct of ‘The Orient’ through the times.

Quỳnh Đông creates hyper-real video works to provide an innate platform upon which she deliberately challenges cultural stereotypes. Her practice extends to also include performance and sculpture. She studied Fine Arts at Bern University of the Arts, and completed her MA in Fine Arts at Zurich University of the Arts. Her work has been exhibited internationally, notably including the Kunsthalle Bern, Galerie Perotin in Paris, Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam, and Galerie Bernhard Bischoff & Partner in Bern. She has further performed her works at Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique Paris; Museé cantonal des Beaux-Arts Lausanne in Switzerland ; LISTE 17, the Young Art Fair in Basel, Switzerland; the Emily Harvey Foundation in New York, USA; and YAP`15, The Twinkle World, Exco 1F, Deagu, in South Korea.

Jongsuwat Angsuvarnsiri is a co-founder of SAC Gallery based in Bangkok and Chiang Mai where he also runs a residency program. Having graduated from Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London, Jongsuwat’s interest is in art investment, art business development and art collecting. At the gallery, Jongsuwat focuses on working with emerging artists to connect between Thailand and the international art scene. 

Their talk session, Beer with Artist vol.4, is scheduled to take place in Kitakagaya area in Osaka. 

This event is designed as a casual talk session with “Frank Q&A.” It aims to foster casual interactions with the art practitioners, allowing attendees to enjoy meals and drinks, engage in spontaneous conversations, and forge new connections – a refreshing divergence from standard artist talks. ■イベント概要
大阪のアートハブ・TRA-TRAVELは、「リサーチをひらく」をテーマにしたトークイベント「TRA-TRA-TALK（TTT）」を継続的に開催しています。クリエイターや研究者などの「リサーチャー（聞き手）」が、プロジェクトやリサーチを進めるにあたって、専門家や事情通など「レスポンダー（応対者）」に話を聞きに行くことを、あえてパブリックイベントとしてひらくことで、観客も交えた意見交換を行う「相互の学びの場」となることを目指しています。
TTT vol.5は、TRA-TRAVELをリサーチャーとして、また台北、ホーチミン、カールスルーエを代表するアートオーガイナイゼーション三団体をレスポンダーとして招き、「アートオーガナイゼーションの活動と国際交流の可能性」を中心に対話／リサーチをひらきます。

９つの質問からスタートする本トークイベント「TTT vol.5」では、台北のアーティスト・コレクティブ『OCAC』、ホーチミンのアーティスト・イニシアチブ・プラットフォーム『Sàn Art』、そしてカールスルーエの美術館・研究所ZKMのアートメディエイターが立ちあげた『Mediating Media Arts』が参加します。
各国や地域でアートがどのように機能し、また現在のトレンドがどのようなものかについて意見交換を行い、国や地域によって異なる「アートに関する制度、歴史、文化助成、国際協力」について理解をふかめる機会をもちたいと思います。
同時代のアートの動向に耳をかたむけ、新たな視点やインスピレーションを得る絶好の機会となることでしょう。ぜひ足をお運びください。

2007年にアーティスト主導のプラットフォームとしてホーチミン市に設立されたSàn Artは、以来、ベトナムとこの地域をリードする独立系アート団体へと成長した。Sàn Artは、国内外のアーティストや文化活動に対する草の根的な支援へのコミットメントを維持しつつ、定期的な教育的イニシアチブを通じた批評的言説の場でもある。

展覧会プログラム（2007年以来110以上）のほか、Sàn Artの過去のプロジェクトには、アーティスト・レジデンス「Sàn Art Laboratory」（2012-2015年）、出版物やイベントのシリーズ「Conscious Realities」（2013-2016年）などがあり、グローバル・サウスに焦点を当てた作家、アーティスト、思想家、文化関係者を招いている。2018年、Sàn Artはキュレーター養成学校「Uncommon Pursuits」と、ベトナムとこの地域の近現代美術の対話に焦点を当てた新しいギャラリーを立ち上げた。また同年、MoT+++およびNguyen Art Foundationと共同で設立した国際的なアーティスト・レジデンシー・プログラムであるA. Farm（2018-2020）を開始した。

組織の歴史に新たな章を開いたSàn Artは、革新的で実験的な実践や視点を支援・育成するコミュニティ・ハブとして拡大している。

2001年に台湾の板橋で設立されたOpen Contemporary Art Center（OCAC）は、バンコクや台北の様々な地区を拠点に進化を遂げてきたアーティストコレクティブ。初期にはアーティストスタジオ、ブッククラブ、展覧会などのプログラムを提供していましたが、現在では特にタイのアーティストとの国際的なつながりを深めるための「ThaiTaiプロジェクト」を通じて成長を遂げています。現在は9人のメンバー全員が活動中のアーティストで、OCACは現代アートシーンにおける多様な対話と芸術的可能性を促進するシンクタンクおよびプラットフォームとして機能しています。

Mediating Media Artsはカールスルーエの文化施設ZKMのアートメディエイターBarbara Kiolbassa と Fanny Kranzが立ち上げたチーム。2022年にMMAは韓国、日本、インドネシアを訪れ、非ヨーロッパ的文脈におけるメディア・アートの媒介を探求し、多くのネットワークを築き、そして何よりもたくさんの食事を交わしました。
MMAは、韓国、日本、インドネシアで実践されているメディアアートの仲介（メディエイション）戦略について、また、メディアアート媒介の差し迫った課題は何なのかを、それぞれのローカルな文脈を踏まえて研究した。TTT vol.5では、彼らの経験を紹介する。

 

 

■レスポンダー

マリー・ルー・ダヴィド／Mary Lou DAVID

パリ生まれ、ロンドン育ち。ホーチミンを拠点に活動。2014年ロンドン大学コートールド美術研究所美術史コース修了。 ベトナムのアートシーンを牽引する現代アートオーガナイゼーション「Sàn Art（サン・アート）」のキュレーター。実験映画、ビデオ・アート、クィア・パフォーマンスへの継続的な関心に加え、同地のインディペンデントなアートスペースを支援し、コラボレーションするための新たなネットワークの構築を目指す。さまざまなレジデンスプロジェクトに携わる中で、コミュニティに焦点を当てたプログラムと国際的な芸術交流が地元のアートシーンを多様にし、活性化するためのプロジェクトを数多く実践している。

Sàn Artでの展覧会企画と並行して、「Saigon Experimental Film Festival’ editions III and IV (2020年、 2022年) 」の共同キュレーション、 A. Farm (2018-2020年)、Times & Realities (2021年)、Sàn Art Studio (2021年〜)、Ecologies of Water (2023-)といったレジデンシープロジェクトにも関わっている。

ルオ・シードン

OCAC（Open Contemporary Art Center）の主要メンバーであるルオ・シードンの芸術実践は、個人としてのアート表現の追求と集団的な実践への関心という、二つの異なる磁場から形作られています。

2011年にはパリのポンピドゥー・センターで行われた「Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin/Madrid」や、フランスのリヨン・ビエンナーレ「Une terrible poetique」に参加しました。2014年には、国立文化芸術基金から海外芸術旅行プログラムの助成を受け、インドネシア、フィリピン、タイの芸術スペースやコレクティブのリサーチや交流を進めました。台湾と東南アジアの間で多数の共同プロジェクトを実施しており、例えば、Jiandyinとの共同での「ThaiTai: A Measure of Understanding」（2012-2014）、Lifepatchとの「CO-Temporary: Itu Apa Island」（2016）、PETAMUプロジェクト（2018）、そして「A Fly Enters. Immense Breath of the SEA」シリーズ（2020-2022）など。2022年には、Baan Noorg Collaborative Arts & Cultureと共にカッセルのDocumenta15に参加しました。
